Hold it. Since I just got Flaming Cliffs 2, can you add a flyable fixed winged aircraft to the mission first?

Herr-Berbunch 08-17-11 03:07 PM

Yeah, he's doing it now for you. :yep:

Raptor1 08-17-11 03:09 PM

Yes, I happen to be on TeamSpeak now...

Herr-Berbunch 08-17-11 03:11 PM

I'm off in a short while, I'll be back on later though. As usual

Arclight 08-17-11 03:12 PM

Added it to the new CAS mission. Server back up.

Nice to see so many lined up raring to go.

Fencer v Dowly :arrgh!:

Arclight 08-18-11 03:01 PM

A-10C, coming up.

Whilst waiting for my systems to align I have a peek at the other a/c. What's he firing at? I wondered. :hmmm:

http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/4...0818222142.jpg

Ah, the poor Kiowa. Which despite the myriad holes and missing airframe still made it home okay - why do I not?

http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/6...0818223557.jpg

Anyway, caught up with the two Hinds, and got them both with guns. :arrgh!:

Before promptly crashing.

http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/4...0818225916.jpg

Off I go again, just as Arclight's approaching for his usual spot-on landing.

Magic mirrors, can see through cloud. :|\\

http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/5...0818231205.jpg

Hands up those who think they know how long this a/c continued flying for? :know: Correct - not long at all.

Hawk2495 refuelling :woot:

http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/3...0819005140.jpg

The end of a long and fruitful day, no damage other than my jetisoned canopy, not even a parking dent this week. :D

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/103...0819005327.jpg

Obviously we weren't going again and I couldn't be bothered to wait for the ladder to extend. :hmmm:

http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/5...0819005430.jpg

Arclight not overly chuffed that I've just wrecked my a/c so close to his - his poor crew chief has only just recovered from repairing it after my ultra-low fly-by the other week scraped the paintwork!

From my point of view a very good night, only one a/c lost, no hung stores, didn't run out of fuel. :woot: Things are looking up.

That's not my fault, somebody moved the airfield several dozen kilometers away while I wasn't looking!

Arclight 08-18-11 08:17 PM

We really tore apart the enemy airfield. Think this is Berbunch passing below after making our gun runs, ricochets hitting the water further down.

3 succesfull landings. Some more succesfull than others, but any landing you can walk away from... means more work for your crew chief.

No trading paint, I'm impressed. :O:

And the usual to wrap it up:

Berbunch's flying circus.

http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...819_015317.jpg
I nearly get hit in the head with an ejection seat. (My G-meter is lying! I swear!)

http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...819_015454.jpg
And my aircraft has holes completely unrelated to any of my actions. :)

hawk2495 08-18-11 08:39 PM

Ok, I survive a fight with 4 tors and a dog ear. Manage to take out the dog ear and 1 tor, five or six t-55s, numerous other ground targets. I RTB and get almost taken out by a bird...
http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...irdstrike2.jpg

It doesn't look so bad. Chief shouldn't be too mad.. Except for having to replace the canopy, seat, rebuild the starboard engine, fix the nose gear. Nah shouldn't be that bad.

hawk2495 08-18-11 08:51 PM

Nice shots Herr und Arc. Yeah I think I got to take on about 100 lbs of fuel before I had to break off. That took forever. Every time I would be at speed and lined up, he decided change heading...lol

Arclight 08-18-11 08:55 PM

Yeah, think I'll change his path and give him a longer leg to fly, having the same trouble... Could slow him down a bit, but it's easier to nail the speed as it is now.

A bird? That explains it. Stuff like birdstrikes and random failures are on, but it is exceedingly rare. ;)

Anyone know what the real things fly at in terms of speed and altitude when refueling A-10? :06:

hawk2495 08-18-11 09:37 PM

I'm not seeing much on the speeds for an A-10 refuel, but I would think that 250-270 knots sounds about right. Any higher and she would burn too much fuel just to stay with the tanker. Especially since the KC-135 can move at about 500 knots @ 30,000.

Now a question for Herr-Berbunch. What key do you have bound for your mic switch aft? I'm thinking you were using the wrong radio for contacting the tanker, but I could be wrong.

Herr-Berbunch 08-19-11 03:20 AM

The VHF radio (bottom left hand side) set to 51.000, tried switching the r/hand knob to T R and A A T R, then press # to bring up the comms list.

If that is wrong then please do tell. :yep:

hawk2495 08-19-11 04:00 AM

Ok here's what I think is happening. Correct me if I'm wrong, but did you set up the mission and or server for complex comms Arc? If so, the regular comm menu will not work. If it is set up for complex you must use the mic switch commands for the HOTAS. I just tested this on a training mission I did for take off and landing. While tuned in to the frequency for the tower I tried the regular comm menu. ATC,Batumi, request startup. No response. I hit mic switch forward (UHF AM), then went to ATC, Batumi, request startup, and they came back to me immediately. It should be exactly the same with the UHF (mic switch down) and VHF FM(mic switch aft) radios. Hope this helps... And yes, I have no life.... lol:nope:

Arclight 08-19-11 04:28 AM

Of course it's set for realistic comms, don't be silly. :P

And yes, that's the problem. You don't just need to set the proper frequency, you need to transmit on the proper radio as well.

Oh, not this then?

Mic switch? Another key to fathom out

Thanks guys. TBH I don't know how I didn't just shoot the thing down for not replying to me. :arrgh!:

hawk2495 08-19-11 09:43 AM

You must have had this overwhelming sense that "maybe one of my fellow pilots might need fuel soon"... Ok probably not. You just didn't like the idea of surrendering every paycheck, and the checks of all of your descendants for the next 15 generations to pay for the KC-135 and the fuel on board. Granted the fuel is probably worth more.

What flight setup are you guys using? Just curiosity.

Herr-Berbunch 08-19-11 10:16 AM

Only an old MS Sidewinder joystick. :D Before that I had X52 Pro, but sold it :wah:
