Star Trek actor to be launched into space

The actor who played Captain Kirk in the Star Trek series is set to embark on a real-life journey into space.

US tech billionaire Jeff Bezos's space travel company Blue Origin confirmed that William Shatner would be blasting off from Texas on 12 October.

Aged 90, the actor will become the oldest person to have flown into space.

"I've heard about space for a long time now. I'm taking the opportunity to see it for myself. What a miracle," Shatner said in a statement.

It should be great for Shatner to do this. The guy spent his entire life on a makeshift spaceship in a makeshift space.

Not without Viagra he won't:wah: :O: https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013...04_634x678.jpg:arrgh!: Actually Kirk did boldly go where no man had gone before! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirk_and_Uhura%27s_kiss
Quote:

When NBC executives learned of the kiss they became concerned it would anger TV stations in the Deep South. Earlier in 1968, NBC had expressed similar concern over a musical sequence in a Petula Clark special in which she touched Harry Belafonte's arm, a moment cited as the first occasion of direct physical contact on American television between a man and woman of different races. At one point during negotiations, the idea was brought up of having Spock kiss Uhura instead (as Spock was half Vulcan), but William Shatner insisted that they stick with the original script. NBC finally ordered that two versions of the scene be shot—one in which Kirk and Uhura kissed and one in which they did not. Having successfully recorded the former version of the scene, Shatner and Nichelle Nichols deliberately flubbed every take of the latter version, thus forcing the episode to go out with the kiss intact. However, almost no one found the kiss offensive" except from a single mildly negative letter from one white Southerner who wrote: "I am totally opposed to the mixing of the races. However, any time a red-blooded American boy like Captain Kirk gets a beautiful dame in his arms that looks like Uhura, he ain't gonna fight it." Nichols notes that "for me, the most memorable episode of our last season was 'Plato's Stepchildren.'"
GEEZE maybe when they pull down another statue of Confederate General Lee next time, they'll replace it with Captain Kirk!:yeah:

I wonder if Scotty and him will exchange waves when he's up there.

If he croaks up there, it'll be more like Bones: "He's dead Jim". I still watch the original series every night! Mr. Shatner's one small step into Blue Origin NS-18 is one of the better crossover stories of our era...'no bones' about it!!?.:Kaleun_Salute::O:

Well now all humanity knows across the planet William Shatner is an Actor. Yes William is a human and reacted just like any 90yr old that got to go on the Ultimate tourist ride. Thank you Jeff Bezos you Killed Captain Kirk! Now we have a 90 yr old actor babbling about a thin blue and black space of death.Cause your fikin rocket could not get him high enough to see the fikin stars of real space. Thank you Jeff, how about sending Greta Thunberg next time.
