New random Campaign for SH2 available

OK, only 5 people said they would like to have it  , but anyway, here you go, for anyone interested. I tried to contact Rossbach to tell him I was using part of his code, but the mail was bounced back :-?

Link: http://rapidshare.de/files/5821469/i..._pack.rar.html

It's only 0.5 MB big, so easy download even for 56k. Have fun and feedback here.

From the README:

Quote:

This Campaign generator pack has been written entirely through a rework of Rossbach’s original one, and has a lots of features implemented, including:

- Random career length (Minimum 5 maximum 7 missions)
- Random convoy routes each time you generate a campaign, and also each time you restart the same mission
- Random convoy composition (3 Templates with real names for ships)
- Random radio traffic, including reports from other U-Boots, orders from BdU to you or to other subs, SOS messages and intel messages
- New units like soviet submarines, destroyers and battleships (Also present in the vehicle viewer)
- New Type VIIC model by sergbuto with Deck gun removed and improved wake
- Random chances of encountering stragglers, soviet submarines, aircraft and patrols
- New weather file and effects
- Modified sensors to prevent your U-Boot from detecting convoys at surface at 100 kms (50 NM) distance
- Random british Hunter Killer Groups
- Small Wolfpacks on certain missions
- A solution (Thanks to CB) has been implemented to prevent part of the saved game bug (No aggressive escorts), but if you save you will still lose radio messages and medals.
- The same technique will provide escorts that patrol around the convoy, and not simply stay on a fixed position.
- Optional no map icons mod by CB: You will only see grey generic icons on your map and will need to identify visually any unit encountered.

EDITED: The readme states wrongly that Redwine DCs mod is included. It is NOT include, but is highly recommended :arrgh!:

Thank you Hitman.

Having fun with this HM, but its showing up my inexperience as a campaign player.......

First patrol out out of Trondheim , minor bump getting out of the harbour (I need to eat more carrots .. the Arctic is very dark )

Reach patrol zone ... no targets .

Set course to return to base .

Dive to avoid an enemy aircraft .

All clear. Order boat to "surface" . Conning tower emerges above water then sub mysteriously and involuntarally goes back to periscope depth.

All attemps at surfacing ( including blowballast ) fail.

Batteries run out ... sub comes to a halt at periscope depth.

CO2 levels rise . Crew asphyxiated . :(

Don't think I'll be getting a medal .

Hi sailor :) seems you finally got hooked with pig boats :P

Yes, exiting Trondheim requires a bit of practice: Set time compression to 4x (Eliminates waves) and speed to halbe fahrt voraus. As soon as the Boot is out of the pen, turn left with full rudder until you point to the exit of the harbour (There are two peaks of mountains visible right on the exit...point the bow there). Once out of the harbour turn starbord (right) and plot your course out of the fjord in the map. BTW would love to see again that screenshot you did with hi-res textures for the fjords

BDU will ask you to return after four weeks in patrol (It's also random, but should be in around 4 weeks), but it might happen that you don't locate any convoy in the meantime. Do you stay that long in the patrol area?

Don't think this has much to do with the campaign :hmm:

No I didn’t think the campaign was the problem . I wondered if some of the more experienced Uboat capts ( which in my case means everybody else ) had ever come across this . Surely this wasn’t due to my little bump ? I’d dived and surfaced a few times successfully before it went into refusal .

I'll see if I've still got it

Hitman,

Thanks. Only 5 of us responded to your post, but 18 down loaded before me. A silent majority.

Good Hunting,

Could someone send me this? Send to billds9{at}yahoo.com

I would like to have this on file if I get the urge to play some SHII again...

BTW the link gives a broken DL, which is why I ask.

Rossbach 10-24-05 03:40 AM

Well, well, well... Hitman, you have finished the enhanced campaign project we started on spring 2004. :D In the face of the release of SH3 I lost the interest already long time ago, but your persistence is impressive. Thats

Hitman, I have took some freedom. First I have published your version on website http://web.starman.ee/rossbach as Hitman's edition of Arctic Kampaign 1944 so everyone, who are interested can download the campaign from there without any hazzle.

And changed the package file over to zip file. I hope you don't mind

For informatin for those still playing SH2 - it's a "must", especially after Hitman's major rework, surpassing even the SH3 in some sense with its focus and atmosphere that you are part of something.

Well Done, Hitman!

Rossbach

horsa 10-24-05 05:30 AM

Yep, I must endorse that. SH2 does not deserve to be a dead game. I love the recent SH3 for many features but SH2 has its own atmosphere, and many aspects of the game have never been fully exploited . This Arctic Campaign is one example.

Hitman 10-24-05 09:36 AM

Hey, great to see you here again Rossbach! :D :D

Yup I finally managed to do a version of my own of your brilliant tool...its simplicity and efectiveness is even today, 3 years after the creation, outstanding  and even an idiot like me, with zero knowledge of scripting in VB has been able to understand how it works and rework it

I would love to add many things more, but I don't know if I will have the time for it....

Thanks for your support!
