Trying to beat Adolf Galland!

By the end of 1940, Galland had 58 kills. Let's see if I can top that in Battle of Britain II... in four months.

Rules I use:
- Let AI handle the mission planning.
- Free to choose a sortie to fly in, yet max. 3 sorties per day.
- Dead is dead. Bailing out over northern part of the channel/england = game over.
- No padlocking.
- No ammo "cheat" i.e. pressing CTRL+R to replenish the ammo.
- No straying off the mission, i.e. going to attack RAF airfield by myself to catch planes on the ground.
- Target size = Small
- Both RAF & LW skills on veteran (I'm so screwed:-?)
- Allowed to strafe planes on the ground ONLY when there is opportunity to do so without straying off the mission (e.g. escorting bombers whose mission is to strike an RAF field, spotting landing/landed planes on a return flight etc. etc.)

July 10th, 1940 - 3 kills total

Sortie#1 - 1 Kill

Got lost in the clouds somewhere over the convoy the Stukas were to bomb. After a few minutes I noticed I was over land, so waaaay over where I shouldnt be. Turned back to south and spotted an formation of 12 Hurricanes roughly 2000m below me in my 2o'clock. Dived in and aimed at the Hurricane flying on the far right of the formation. Had a quick glance over my shoulder and saw the Hurricane spiral downwards out of control. I claim that as a kill. Continued my dive to 500m and headed home.

Sortie#2 - 2 kills

Another escort duty for a convoy raid. ~40 Stukas with 76 109s babysitting them. Our flight was positioned to the rear, so the battle was on when we got there. I was in at around 5000m, watching the Stukas bomb the convoy with few successfull hits.Took me a good 3-4 minutes to find a good target to bounce on; a lone Hurricane flying towards England at sealevel (possibly out of ammo??). I inverted my plane and pulled back on the stick to get to a steep dive just as the Hurricane passed under me. Dont know what this one was thinking or doing but he never had any idea I was there, I was maybe 150m from him when I opened up with both MGs and cannons. Lots of hits on fuselage and left wing, which broke to pieces after a few more rounds. Kill if you ask me.

I quickly headed back towards the clouds, wouldnt want a Hurricane catch me down here without any advantages. I got to 1100-1200m when I spotted another low flying Hurricane on my 8 o'clock, heading away from me. A quick roll and pull from the stick. I dived to get the speed advantage in case he notices me. As I was closing, I decided to try the tactic I heard Galland used (Just read it from a book last night :)), so I dived under the Hurricane and got a good hits to it's belly when climbing back up. Good tactic I must say, never knew what hit him! With a black smoke pouring out if it's engine, it slowly dived towards the sea. Parachute spotted. 2nd kill for the sortie.

Decided to call it for this time, so headed back home.

EDIT: Ow yeh and I got a new rule I follow occasionally. When I fly, I wear my heavy leather jacket, gloves and a hat under my TIR cap. ******* exhausting it is. :D

Havent flown more than the 2 sorties on July 10th atm. Just woke up, need get me a cup of coffee and tell Schultz to make the preparations, I'm feeling like hunting. ;)

As for the unsporty thingy, I've lost count how many times I've suffered the same fate in the hands of RAF. With the exception that my 109 was already smoking. Revenge is sweet. :yep:

Tho, I just realised that looking at the kills, I should have no problem getting 58 kills in 1 month if I continue like this. I just need to stay alive! :D I think my record is something like 4 sorties without being shot down in BoB II. :P

July 10th, 1940 - 3 kills total

Sortie#3 - 0 kills

Target for today was the convoy 'JAUNTY', just east of London. Some 40 Stukas with the escort of 76 109s. The RAF had had time to rest and refuel during the few hours of inacticity, so we were met with 3 flights of 12 Hurricanes over the target. The furball formed in a second, I lost sight of the Stukas due the poor visibility. So, I decided to grab an easy one again, by bouncing the first low flying target I'd spot. And here was a good candidate, some 1000m below me on my right, a hurricane chasing another 109. I banked and started my dive, should've kept my eyes on the speedometer as I quickly reached 600km/h, making it very hard to control the plane. I got a quick burst off at the Hurricane, with few hits making the Hurricane break off the 109s tail. As I got my plane back in control, I scanned the area for the Hurri I just bounced without luck. I took my 109 to a shallow climb to get the heck out of the beehive. Too late. A Hurricane was glued to my tail, getting some shots off at me. I screamed for help on the radio, but everyone was too busy fighting their own fights. Righto, what to do... continue the climb, not knowing how much E the Hurri has or start going nuts at low level... I decided to try the latter. I banked and rolled, dived and climbed, no result. I called may day when I got another burst to my wing, tower gave me the nearest friendly airfield's heading, I wonder what's the use, it's 50km away, I doubt I can even make it for 500m with this one on my tail. Oh well, nothing to loose, I dived down to tree tops, full gas and hope for the best. After awhile of running, the Hurricane was unable to catch up on me, but still kept on going. My engine had been hit and didnt sound that good, it could give up any minute and I'd be doomed. Last try, I banked hard to left, going head to head with the Hurri. Both tried to get shots at another, no hits. I got back to my heading to home at tree tops, scanning my 6'oclock to see what the Hurri was up to. It seems the last try worked, the Hurri was circling at maybe 400m trying to find me, with no luck. (Gotta love this darn AI!!) So I was saved and even without kills, I prolly saved one Luftwaffe pilot's arse and I get to fight another day. :smug:
