Creating a forum like subsim
Many of my Danish friends on FB are being sending to FB-prison now and then and they are complaining about FB. I have on many occasion said that they should create a forum like the one I use, is a member. And use this for political debate.
Lately I have been thinking on creating a forum like ours Subsim-Same type. How do you create a forum like this one ? To be honest I seem to having problem turning theory(Reading info)to practice-Creating the forum. What type of forum is subsim build up on ? Edit Been doing some reading on this page https://blog.hubspot.com/service/how...-forum-website End edit Markus |
I could answer your questions but seeing as this forum belongs to Neal I suggest you send him a PM

To be honest, Markus. You already have the basis for creating a forum. Simply create a blog.

My idea was to create a forum like this one, but in Danish with a Danish web-provide(I think you call them) I like the way our forum(Subsim) is made and how it works. Markus |

I want people to post what's on their mind in right section-Like Domestic politics, Foreign politics or EU-Politics. Markus |
I know now what kind this forum is build on. It starts with P and ends with B.
It's an online Internet forum. What I need is a host-Internet provide(Cost of course money-Monthly payment) Then I need this web based internetforum-By downloading it from their homepage. The place where you can get this P...B 3. Something. Markus |

Hi Markus,
Subsim forum is built on vBulletin, not PhPBB, look at the bottom of the page. An old version of vBulletin, but I cannot upgrade without uprooting a lot of features, like downloads. I'm ok with that, it's function that matters to me and this forum software is built like a tank. If you want to start a forum with your friends, I suggest XenForo. It's very active, well supported, robust and has a nicer UI than vB. You can get a starter package with hosting for $60 a month. Or you can buy a license for $160 but you have provide the hosting. Shared hosting can be pretty cheap, less than $10 a month, but that's for sites with small traffic. If it is mainly you and a few friends, that's plenty. With shared hosting, your website lives alongside others, which are neighboring users utilizing the same server. With dedicated hosting plans, your website has a server all to itself. Because of the amount of bandwidth SUBSIM uses on forum posts and mod downloads, we have a mid-tier dedicated server. Maybe you can start a forum on Reddit? I use it occasionally, but I really don't know what the rules are for starting a sub reddit (seems like anything goes). Or start your own Discord server, super easy. Neal |
Thank you for your answering me.
To be honest I have some doubt now and then-Reason is as Skybird wrote in another thread in GT-People is addicted to FB. I'm doing it anyway. Create a internet forum. Edit Forgot three things. 1. I have come to the conclusion I need a computer nerd or similar-Sadly I'm out of contact with my Cousin-What he doesn't know about computers and homepages is not worth knowing. 2. It's not just a few friends-I presume when people see they aren't being put into prison for writing stuff that doesn't goes against Danish law-Free Speech, they will join. Well that's my hope. So it will be more than a few. 3. Since my hope is to grow/expand -I would need moderators. My rules will be few and simple-Follow Danish law, do not use ugly words, profanity or name calling when you post a comment or answer someone and do not link to adult pages. End edit Markus |

freedom of expression Markus |
Ok, can you ex-plain what that consists of, maybe with some examples? thanks

Well I must admit we do not have full free expression-We are not allowed to muck other races, sexuality and so on. We have this famous paragraph 266b Which says Quote:

You are not allowed to mock a person due to his or her sexual orientation. Could not find any-Which mean that your free speech is far more free than ours. Or I been looking/searching the wrong places on the web. Markus |
