F-2? Horrible piece of junk, the F-4, THAT's a good aircraft

Anyway, Oberon wasn't there to grab pictures of how I was tragically mauled by a Pe-3 and shot down with an exploding left fuel tank and no engine (And my subsequent deportation by foot to the Gulag in Siberia)

Task Force 10-18-08 07:25 PM

Yea, the F2 isnt that great (no large guns like later models) ,but it gets me around.:yep:

Biggles 10-19-08 07:01 AM

Now I get the desire to fly in that area again:hmm:

Thanks :D

Yeah, that was a nice sized convoy. My bombs went wide, so I'm gonna have to learn some bomb aiming skillz  And more importantly, map those bombsight keys! :hmm:

Task Force 10-19-08 09:47 AM

All you got to do is (or atleast for me.)
Get at a high altitude 2000m sounds good, and do a dive right at it.
When you feel like you are at the right spot, drop your bomb. It should go ca boom.:yep:

With der Junkers 88, you have to use the overly-complicated Stuvi thingamajiger bombsight when divebombing

Ain't that simple

Personaly I like the F-2 and F-4 when you think about it the only diffrence between the two is the F-4 has gunpods and the F-2 doesn't. You don't get the big guns until '43 when you get the 20mm cannons.

The F-2 has an aweful 15mm version of the very popular MG 151 firing through the prop hub, giving it marginally more firepower than say, a P.11, as opposed to that, the F-4 has the proper 20mm MG 151 which gives it enough firepower to take on pretty much anything except heavy bombers (And IL-2s, unless you know where to aim)

The later versions of the Gustav and Kurfurst have the even bigger MK 108 30mm cannons, which can demolish pretty much anything in a couple of shots

Task Force 10-19-08 12:10 PM

Ive noticed IL2 have a week spot just behind the cockpit.:yep: They rip appart when you do it the right way.

Fincuan 10-19-08 01:56 PM

In real life IL2s were practically impossible to take down with fire from pure 6 o'clock. Finnish pilots always attacked them from a slight angle: above -> pilot and engine, both sides -> wingroots(thinner armor and fuel tanks), below -> engine and radiator. Afaik wingroots and radiator were preferred as targets.

Ingame they go down a bit easier. My favourite is the wingroots from above, since that way you usually take the whole wing off. Works even with "teh porked" .50 cals. The engine is also pretty vulnerable to .50 cal fire from above.

Morts 10-19-08 02:08 PM

IL-2's are actually quite easy to take down
their rear gunners dont always shoot at you, and if you're comming up from below it just hit the engine (simple for some) but if you're lucky, 2/3x20mm in the wing root can actually tear of the wing

Kptlt. Neuerburg 10-20-08 12:14 PM

The IL-2s are easy to shoot down. I currently fly the Bf 109-G6. I know I have the option of using the 20mm cannon but I don't. I stead I use five MG151/20s. There are three in the nose and two in gunpods, I've shot down alot of IL-2s this way.

Dowly 10-21-08 12:37 PM

What a lucky sob! :nope: I peppered this poor twit from point-blank range with my MG's & the 37mm cannon you can mount to the 110, from one wing tip to another, TWICE! The fecka turns into a ball of flame, dives and just barely get's his nose up just enough to hit the hill slope! :damn:

You call that lucky!?:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

If the other option was blowing up to billion small pieces of s**t, yes. :yep:

Fincuan 10-22-08 12:15 AM

How to bring down a P-40

Happened to me in yesterday's sorties with JG53. I suffered no damage whatsoever.

Hint: That rudder was not dislocated by gunfire

Note to Self: Dont try to attempt that attack manouver myself....:p

Dowly 10-22-08 05:56 AM

The 109 is great for that. I've bumped onto a bomber numerous times, you only lose the propellor and the enemy loses parts of it's tail, usually making the crew bail out. ;)
