Nicely done Geno, my first take-offs with the Korean war jets resulted in an impressive crater on the runway as I walloped my tail on the ground.

Without the additional rocket boost on one version you've got no chance to get it to take off speed before reaching the end of the runway. At least not with fuel and armament. The F86 on the other hand has a very strange flight model. Definitely not anything I would call realistic. maybe it's best you don't temper with the mod planes until you've gained some experience with the "real" aircraft as you might get used to their spoiled Fms too much and won't be able to handle a plane with a proper FM. Hope this didn't sound arrogant and/or smartassy (is this even a word?)...well I could live with smartassy but still.....:O: |

I'd better catch some more sleep before the flight. It's 3:26am AEST  |
Crécy & Dowly enroute to get their arses kicked.

Maybe I should make that training mission a little easier. :hmmm:

Bailed out, plane kept flying on... http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...4-54-12-21.jpg FAIL?! Rub it in, why don't you. :shifty: |

IIRC Arc, the A-10 might be able to fly fine with part of the tail gone like that, I believe it was designed so that if one tail section went you could fly the plane on the other. Likewise the electronic control system has a manual backup. It's designed to go through the wringer and come out again. Not sure how that applies to DCS...bloody well wish I could find out though... :hmmm:
|
Yes, the A-10 has a very solid manual reversion system, iirc you can actually even fly it just by cables. I recall reading a story from the Gulf War where an A-10 successfully returned to base, after 1 hour flight, with the hydraulic system shot up and half a wing missing.
|
Well, yes, considering the fact the plane flew on after my ejection, it's safe to say it wasn't all that bothered overall.
And yeah, hydraulic assisted control surfaces. 1 system for the left and one for the right iirc, with the possibility to control the plane using the electric trim motors, though that really doesn't give the control needed for a landing. Just couldn't control the thing: needed heavy rudder to get it straight, so much so that the aircraft became terribly unstable. Prolly my lack of flying experience, but definetly wouldn't have landed it in one piece... so I opted for the high Gs of the ejection seat rather than from an impact with terra firma. (flying on half a wing is a lot easier than half a tail, can tell you that much) |
Just had a quick go on IL2, managed to make a successful landing with one wheel, a fuel leak and jammed rudder controls, pretty impressed I didn't turn into a fireball.

You know what they say Lord_Magerius, any landing you can walk away from is a good one. Heres a new screeny from me while I'm checking out the Battle over Britian Redux campaign from Mission 4 Today. (Unedited)

Dammit, overheat...but at least it happened on the ground... |
I wasn't as lucky as Oberon

That is some serious overheat
