Metox RWR problem

I have only noticed this when it's installed on a VIIB. VIIC, the problem doesn't exist.

Problem: When it detects ship signals (game bug I know), the ship contact mark on the map blinks on/off. One second it's there, the next not.
I also cannot send a contact report.

If I move the radioman from his slot in the radio room, the problem goes away. Ship contact marks stay on the map, non-blinking.
But I still can't send a contact report obviously (radio not manned).

A search found no info. on this. Is this a bug, or is there something I can do to fix it ?

John,

I noticed that when I am not able to send radio messages or contact reports, I have to move the Funkmate to the crew quarters and then back again to fix the issue. Once this is done no problem sending radio signals.

The Soundman suffers from the same issue, not reporting contacts and needs to be move from the sound room to crew quarters and back again to fix the issue.

Both appear to work properly once to and thro was done. Not sure why it happens, I just know now what to do to remedy the situation.

The move to the crew quarters seems to be maybe a das gespenst of the Fatique model, as I play with NO Fatigue. Just odd.:o

Good hunting,

Thanks ! I'll give that a try.

That did the trick Fubar ! Now if I could get rid of the blinking contact marks on the map.

Or ditch this VIIB !

Anyone know if this problem also exists in NYGM ? I've never used the VIIB with metox in it.

Driving me crazy in GWX.

John,

Glad moving the radio and sonar personnel corrected part of your issue.

Never saw blinking map contacts with NYGM , maybe your set up is different. My contacts that do show up on the navigation map are sparse, mostly a square for a convoy and it fades away slowly.

When using Metox, if the radio operator says "Detecting radar signals!" I general dive to 30/40 meters. If it is an aircraft, I am long out of sight, and if a ship, my Sonarman will pick it up. I will stay under for half an hour and then surface. I do not generally go to the navigation map when this happens and when I did, I think I would have noticed some sort of icon on the map.

Not much help, sorry.

Good hunting,

I have to amend my post about moving the radioman solved the contact report problem; I can send an initial report but none after that. Strange.

I'm getting the blinking contacts with GWX btw. Have to try a VIIB in NYGM to see if the same thing happens.
Sorry for the confusion.

I don't usually dive myself when I know the detected signal is from a ship; prefer the mobility the surface provides and while not sure, I don't think the real commanders dove unless they had to in such circumstances (ship contact).

I remember reading Kretschmer anyway was bitter the rest of their lives towards the officer who ordered the dive when he was captured; in his mind if they'd stayed surfaced they'd never would have been captured.

Thanks for the reply !

John,

Well, glad you got a partial fix, anyway!

By any chance did you add radio messages to the message_en or message_de.cfg file before or during your current patrol?

I remember an issue long ago when messages where added that that were not correctly placed in the file it would cause issues affecting the radioman. Moving the crew man fixed the issue until after the message time for receipt had past. Also removing the offending message worked also.

Regarding radar, my course of action has been to be always dive and figure out what is sending the signal. If it is a warship my sound man should be able to locate the bearing and take appropriate needed action. I have been chased down a couple times by escorts with less then desirable results. Gun shy, you betcha.

No, didn't add anything to the message files but thanks for the tip. Strange problem, who knows what is causing it.

I've got another NYGM campaign going and when possible, I'll try a VIIB with a Metox and see what happens. Only 1940 currently but wish I had one; just had a destroyer surprise me out of the fog.
Fortunately no serious damage.

Signal reading wise, yeah I do the same unless it's multiple radar warning contacts at more or less the same time in which case I stay surfaced as it's obviously not a plane then.

In such a case, it's usually escorts on a convoy.

But no right or wrong way; everyone can play the game the way they want which is a good thing.
