saddest day in Jewish history
 

Before I ask my question, I realize there is a truck load of websites and library books on the subject that can tell me what happened. But I'm hoping to find something I haven't been able to so far.

Is there any Jewish records that indicate or a respected rabbi who might know the ethnicity of the army that destroyed the second temple in 70. I know the Roman empire had a knack for pressing the conquered into the army but they normally dragged them off to another part of the empire where they had no sympathy or alligence. And if there were other people involved in the seige besides the roman army where did they come from? (arab, persian, etc)

In Daniel it says "and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary;"

I would like to know who and where those people came from?

IMHO the saddest day in Jewish history was the nazi era 1933 to 1945.

Or maybe in about 73 A.D., at Masada, Elazar ben Yair, the Zealots' leader, decided that all the Jewish defenders should commit suicide instead of giving up to the Romans who were besieging them. The men killed their wives and children, and then committed suicide; 930 people died. Today, the people of Masada are revered by most Jews and Masada is one of the most sacred places in Israel and Judaism.

Theirs probably many more but those two stay in my memory.

The saddest day is definitely the 9th of the Jewish lunar calendar month of Av, which falls out during August or September every year. The day is the anniversary of the sin of the spies in Sinai, that resulted in G-d's punishing the children of Israel by keeping them 40 years in the dessert, rather than leading them to the land of Israel immediately.

This day is also the anniversaries of the destruction of both the 1st and 2nd Temples in Jerusalem, resulting both times in the deaths of millions and the Jews expulsion each time from Israel.

The Nazi invasion of Poland, triggering WWII, began around the time of the 9th of Av.

The day is also the anniversary for the expulsion of all Jews from Spain in 1492, under the order of the king and queen.

I might also add it is the anniversary of the expulsion of the Jews from Gush Katif, Gaza, last year, by their own people.

The 9th of Av is a 25 hour full fast day, accompanied by several laws taken from Jewish laws in death in morning. Most of the added prayers are lamentation for the destruction of Jerusalem, the loss of the Temple and various occurrences that have since happened. Special lamentations have been composed for the holocaust.

This correction means that Jews are not always in the right and that Jews often commit terrible acts upon everyone else.

For instance...

One could argue that the Jews killed Christ and still to this day refuse to acknowledge that Christ was the son of God and the savior of all humanity!

or one could argue that the Jews built and outhouse on sacred Arabic land and called it "Isreal". Now the Arabs are quiet upset about it as well as most people would be if someone came onto their property and built something to live in uninvitedly or without permission!

Personally, I have a lot of respect for the People of Isreal.

To look at all that has been thrown at them and all that has been sufferred, and they still stand proud.:up:

Only since the 1950s, Arabs and Islam have been around for centuries!

So has Isreal, when it's been allowed to exist.

And I wasn't just referring to the last 50+ years.

Arabs were around first and they controlled the land that is now Isreal way longer before the Jews had it! Only after WWII did the Allies put the Jews on ships and carry them away from a hostile Europe and drop them off there. True there wasn't anything there and the Jews did build the buildings there to live in but it was done on Arab controlled land. No wonder why they are mad. The Allies should have dropped the Jews off in N.Korea instead!

It is an ancient hatred that originates with Satan himself. From the day that God Himself showed His favor to the Jewish people, Satan has likewise raged against them. Satan’s primary vehicles that he has used to do this have been several great world empires.

1. Through Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, when he ordered the slaughter of every male Hebrew child. (Exodus 1:5-22)

2. Through Shalmaneser, the ruler of Assyria, when he conquered the northern kingdom of Israel and carried away and dispersed ten of the twelve tribes into exile. (2 Kings 17:5,6)

3. Through Nebuchadnezzar, the ruler of Babylon, when he attacked Jerusalem, the capital of the southern Kingdom of Judea, and carried the rest of the Jews off into exile. (2 Kings 24:10-16)

4. Through Haman, the man appointed as second in command over the Medo/Persian Empire, when he attempted to have every Jew in the empire killed. (Esther 3:9)

5. Through Antiochus Epiphanes, the Greek ruler of Syria, when he laid siege to Jerusalem in what the Jewish Historian Josephus describes as one of the bloodiest sieges in Israel’s history. (Daniel 8:23-25; 1 Maccabees 1-6) 6

6. Through Titus, the Roman emperor, who attacked and captured Jerusalem, killing over 1.1 million Jews, and enslaving over 97,000. (Wars of the Jews, VI, ix, 3).

7. Through various Islamic and Christian empires, which we cannot fail to mention. Even Christianity (albeit in a perverted form) has been far from innocent in the bloody history of the Jewish people.

8. Through Adolf Hitler, who killed over six million Jews during World War II.

9. And eventually through the Antichrist and the False Prophet and their future empire, which is prophesied very clearly by the Prophets Zechariah and Ezekiel to attack Jerusalem and kill two thirds of the inhabitants of the nation of Israel. (Zechariah 13:8,9; Ezekiel 38)

Any thinking person at this point must stop and ask: What else can explain such a consistantly bloody and painful history of one people other than an inhuman demonic hatred? Who could instigate such a black and persistent attack against one people who represent such a very small fraction of one percent of the earth’s population - no matter where they dwell? Who else if not the very Devil himself? The history of the Jewish people alone is proof to the open mind that Satan exists and that he hates those whom God loves and declares to be the very, “apple of His eye.” (Zecheriah 2:8).


So with that I go back to my original question what was the ethnicity of the soldiers under Titus who destroyed the city and sanctuary in 70 (Daniel 9)? Surely they all weren't latin speaking white males from Italy like you see in Hollywood movies?
