I feel like a tratior!!!

I feel like a tratior at the moment. Playing in the med in 43' and the pickings are slim (where are the convoys??) I come across a couple of single merchants and sink them by deck gun. It's only when I take a close look at the flag, I come to the dreadful realization that I'm sinking my own fellow citizens

I have gotin over that(my self with sinking ships flying the Stars and Stripes) But I do know how you feel.

Pants 09-24-06 08:49 PM

Same here guys..same here..you feel especially bad when you have relatives who fought on both sides during WWII..makes you kinda happy and guilty at the same time

DanCanovas 09-25-06 03:05 AM

lol oh come on guys. its us poor brits that have the hard time of it, we're sinking our own ships for 5 years !

Achtung Englander 09-25-06 04:58 AM

I have no qualms about it because I am a Nazi Uboat captain

"you muzt obey orderz"

SubSerpent 09-25-06 05:20 AM

I have no problem with it either. Chances are even my grandfather who served in the US Navy during WW! and WW2 on US Navy DDs and DEs would even play this sim. Everyone has to admit to themselves the Germans back in the day had some pretty neat gear!

Plus, this is just a game or software simulation (take your pick) and no live farm animals were hurt in the making of and during the playing of this sim. It's just pixels on a computer screen. It is NOT real. Keep that in your head.

Matter of fact, I even crashed my 767 passenger jet into the world trade towers in FS9 just to see what would happen. Of course nothing unnormal happened. It too is just a game.

I even shot up and bombed all the ships at Pearl Harbor with my Mitsubishi AGM Zero in IL-2 Pacific Aces campaign. Still nothing happened.

I porked a prostitute in GTA Vice City and in GTA San Andreas only to kill her in cold blood right afterwards to get my $20 back. Still nothing happened. I even slaughtered a million cops with fire, bullets, a chainsaw, and rockets, and still nothing happend.

Bottom Line.....

It's just a game, let the firing commence!!

That's the spirit HUNTERICX!!!! WAY TO GO MATE!!!!

Everybody just needs to think about it like Holloween!! Just because you wear the Nazi uniform in the sim doesn't mean you really are one!! Just like kids in the US that I know who dressed up like Darth Vader last year weren't really on the darkside of the force! They just wanted some damn candy, and all I want is some damn tonnage!

It’s not just the military aspect of sinking your same country’s shipping, sometimes; I have had occasions where it hit me that I was sinking American merchant shipping and my late father was an American merchant marine in WWII; it is sometimes an eerie feeling. The great irony of his life is that he survived WWII duty only to be among the crew taken by the Cambodians on the S.S. Mayaguez at the end of the Vietnam war.

You feel like a traitor because you ARE a traitor, you, you...traitor!

Of course, if BdU complains, you can always blame Bernard.

Henry_pl 09-25-06 07:27 PM

If anyone doesn't feel good when sinking ships with his country's flag- think about those poor Germans- in a majority of WW2 games you play against Germany- how do they feel when they play ex. Call of Duty :ping: Shooting people who speak their language

It's just a game...
Electrones inside a computer...

GT182 09-25-06 07:35 PM

I have a neighbor that wishes he had a computer good enough to play SHIII. He's a retired US Navy submariner that served just after WWII up thru and into the nuclear age of submarines. Right now his health isn't very good so he hasn't bothered getting the new computer. I've told him about SHIII and he was very interested, said he love to command a vGerman sub in the Atlantic.

bookworm_020 09-25-06 08:36 PM

I have no problems over sinking American and UK shipping, in fact conside it a little revenge (the British for nuclear testing in Australia and Americia for calling the Ugg boot theirs!)
I just had up untill that moment never sunk my own nation till that point in time.

I got over it quickly, as the photos show, and will be attempt to sink some more soon...

Biggles 09-26-06 09:26 AM

That's the beauty about living in Sweden!

If I'd ever tried to be a "traitor" I'd only get penalty for it, since Swedish ships is to be concidered Neutral, so what's the point anyway?:ping:

Oh, and where were you mate when you sank those Aussies? In the pacific?

Boris 09-26-06 11:12 AM

I certainly don't have any problems with it... I'm Australian but both my grandfathers fought on the wrong side during the war. Allied shipping is supplying the guys who want to kill my grandfathers, (and in effect are killing me LOL).

Biggles 09-26-06 11:21 AM

It's you or them!!!:arrgh!:

Think about it! If you don't fight, you'll kill about what....30 german saliors in your boat that was under your command?

Would that make you feel better?:hmm:

HunterICX 09-26-06 12:13 PM

 Sometime I dont identify a ship at all...I just sink it.
I feel worse if I leave it floating...its the Tons that i let slip away...Hell no that would make me feel like a traitor

bookworm_020 09-26-06 07:15 PM

I was in the Med ( Australia is a little out of range with a VIIB!) at the time, and as there is a lack of shipping there, any target will do. I went over to Malta and sank escorts as that all I could find!! I came back with a total of 20,000 tons!

I going back to the atlantic, I can hear the passanger liners calling.....

GT182 09-26-06 07:47 PM

I just finished my Patrol #29. On my way back from EJ98 via Port of Spain and back past the Azores on the east side, BDU radios that a large enemy convoy is steaming westbound at 12kts in DG65. All ahead full is ordered to intercept in DG64, which we do just past midnight May 25,1943. We sink 5 US warships- 2 Hunt IIs, a Corvette, and 2 DEBuckleys and one Liberty merchant right at the start. All internal torps are used so it's time to breakoff and reload. At 07:30 the same day we lock horns again with the same convoy appx. 100km to the west. We sank the last warship - a DESomers. Plus a T3, C2, and another Liberty merchant. 2 merchants were crippled by torpedos and had to be finished off with the deckgun. That's 11 ships that won't be returning to NY City. And, I feel good my crew of the U-181 did their job well....very well. :D

So seeing this is only a simulation of that bygone era, I don't mind playing the German side.
