coleslaw- A question for the american
I have seen recipe for serveral different type of coleslaw
today at the supermarket I saw a plastikbowl containing coleslaw made of cabbage, pinapple, and carrot and so on So what is the correct coleslaw made of or is there different type of coleslaw, depending on wich state you coming from? Markus |
Pineapple in colesdlaw?????
Yuk! :dead: I never make it right but there are 2 essential varieties: one based on a mayonaise dressing, the other on a vinegar/sugar dressing. Look them up. That's what the Internet is for. :yep: Hmmm.... maybe I should do the same. :shifty: |
There is no "right way" of making a coleslaw. A basic coleslaw contains white or red cabbage, everything else is purely a matter of taste. Some use vinegar and oil, some mayonnaise, some mayonnaise plus vinegar, some add mustard. My favorite coleslaw is made of white cabbage, vinegar, oil, sugar, salt, pepper and caraway seeds.

My favorite coleslaw is with cabbage that I shredded, and cole slaw dressing, that is it. No carrots or anything. The dressing is more of a vinegar based one. It's all preference as Gizzmoe said.

To confuse abit....Broccoli coleslaw is also good, but while cole slaw is good....... Potato Salad is where its at.

Thank you for the answers
So there's many diffrent type of coleslaw So here are my next question -What is the original Coleslaw made of? Regards Markus |

I guess the recipe that comes closest to the "original" coleslaw is the one I´ve posted, minus the oil, pepper and caraway seeds. |
KFC has the best coleslaw...and the best potato and gravy.

Dunno if this helps... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coleslaw

Mmmmmm! I just made a mixing bowl of coleslaw to go with the ribs slowly cooking on the grill right now!
My favorite is mayo-based with cider vinegar and some sugar. I let it sit in the fridge for a couple of hours until it gets a bit soggy. Yes, KFC does have some kick@$$ slaw! I've been known to just pick up a container of slaw and some biscuits for dinner! :rotfl: |
mmmm.......KFC got awesome slaw, biscuits and their chicken strips not too shabby either.

I like to marinate my ribs in beer overnight. Then they get slow cooked with a honeyglaze. Then comes the final coat of BBQ sauce. At any rate, happy eating. :D |
While KFC coleslaw is rather good, but I prefer their potato salad even more. :yep:
