No the difference, aside from Firefox getting fixed more quickly, IS that IE is more vulnerable. I'm speaking both from personal experience, as someone who has used Firefox exclusively for the last 3 years (back when it was still beta) and IE almost exclusive for many years before that; and also as someone who has worked for the past 18 months in tech support for one of the largest ISPs in the US and whose customers primarily use IE (as do every other ISP's simply because it is bundled with Windows).
My personal experience with IE: the last straw was a browser hijack that I was never able to remove completely until I later reinstalled the OS (at the time Windows 2000 Pro), thanks to IE's extensive hooks into the OS. My personal experience with Firefox: no browser hijacks, no spyware (beyond the usual cookies that I don't bother to block) although I only run adaware or Spybot S&D maybe every 6 months.
My professional experience with IE: I've dealt with customer's whose brandnew computers were so infested with malware, thanks to IE's extensive ties to the OS and numerous holes, that their PC had become virtually unusable (this is the extreme end but all too common all the same). With Firefox: never dealt with a spyware/malware issue where the customer was using Firefox. Of course Firefox also has a much smaller marketshare than IE, and I suspect the average user of Firefox is probably more computer savvy and less dependent on tech support, but in either case my professional experience with it matches my personal one.
