Newly installed mods not seem to be working.
Today, Tuesday, April 11, while in port St. Nazaire, I installed, using JSGME, the following mods: Jcwolf_Leer_v[1].2; sound trainer; uniform mod v.2; church_cumstom_Emblems_vol.1; ail sky mod v2 and bow spray v 1.2. I thought the sound trainer was supposed to appear in the Naval Academy, but it wasn't there. I thought that the control room would have the images that Jcwolf indicated - it wasn't there. I had previously installed 1.4b, MVP-1.0, Merchant Variety pack (3 of them) CA_instrument patch; RUb1.45 and RecManual mod. Those all worked as far as I know. I tried to install UZO & Periscope Mod v 2.0 and Torpedo Texture Tune-up but I was given the message that I was about to overwrite a text file - don't know what text file, so I did not activate them. Anyone have any answers? Robert

About those mods not working, you should check the folders and ensure that everything is where it should be. It's too strange that they just don't show up. About the overwritting, maybe we can help you if you tell us which file was to be overwritten.
Cheers  |
Thanks martes. If possible, I will check the files of the mods that I believe are not working. As for the text files, I'm not sure if I can tell you what or where they are, but I'll give it a try. I am very, very tired now as my M.S. is giving me problems. Check with you later. Robert.

I pasted the Leerjcw.tga file in the Layout folder and I pasted the sound trainer.mis into the single missions folder. However, I have already started my 15th patrol, so the checking will have to wait regarding the UZO and the Torpedo that wanted to overwrite the text files. Robert

Think I'm okay except for one thing.
Hi martes. Everything I installed on Apr 11, seems okay, at least they didn't crash the programme and I was able to do my 15th patrol with no problems, but not much happened on that patrol. However, with respect to the "Bearing Tool Mod" by Jacell, I am still having problems getting that link to load the page. Is there anyway I can contact him/her? Since my M.S. and C.O.P.D. was acting up last night, I spent the time installing a total of 25 mods today, making it a total of 38 since I started the game. My two incurable diseases give me so much trouble sometimes and it's difficult to read. as I get "flashings" in my right eye which really is annoying when I'm trying to play the game or read some of the Mod instructions or Mod pages and sometimes it is very difficult for me to breathe. I am really glad that you are so patient with me. Thanks a whole bunch. Robert.

About the bearing tool, the thing would be contacting Jacell by PM, but strangely, I haven't been able to find him here in the forums, so I'm afraid I don't have any means of contacting him around.
By the way, what's COPD and MS? I've been wondering all the time since I saw your location text. :hmm: Cheers |
M.S. and C.O.P.D.
Hi martes, nice of you to respond. I was quickly looking through some posts yesterday while looking for a mod and I saw his name but forgot where it was and I forgot to see if he had listed an email address.
M.S. = Multiple Sclerosis (which I've had since 1978) and has got worse. I use a wheelchair. C.O.P.D. = Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (which I was diagnosed with in January 2004 when I died on the operating table Jan 1 at 5 AM 4 x) and makes it very difficult for me to breathe and sometimes I have to gasp or cough violently to catch my breath. Both are incurable. I would not wish this on my worse enemy. M.S. causes many different symptoms at various times, like usually my nervous system will cause "light wavy lines in my vision" which impairs what I am watching or reading. Yesterday, I installed quite a few of your mods, some from U-Boat and some from Avon for a total yesterday of 25; making a total of 38 patches I have made to Silent Hunter III. I do not know what affect the 25 installed yesterday to the game will do, as I have not had a chance to play a new mission in my career yet. I backed up my career in case anything went wrong. I am thinking of "burning" all the mods etc. to CDs so I have them in case the programme or my computer crashes. I kept a list of when and the order in which I installed each mod. Some of them over-wrote text files but I don't think that will be a problem as they were only readme or instruction files. Happy Hunting. Robert. Oh, I sent an email to Neal (at least tried to) because I wrote-up an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet listing the shortcut keys under organized headings. I wrote Neal and attached the file to the email in hopes he can post it for others to use. It is very handy as I cannot remember what key does what and the large fold-out keyboard that came with the game is too cumbersome. Having the shortcut key sheet in front of me while playing the game, makes it very handy. I have posted all my games where I have posted my life story which is at http://spaces.msn.com/subguy2a/ . Some of your mods are linked to rapidfire and I am not able to download those. Thanks again for responding. Robert. |
Newly installed mods not seem to be working.
Well, yesterday I installed the following: (in the order I installed them) coursesolver_sh3; JCW_Flaggen_v_0[1].1; Type VII Realistic Hull skin (not working); sound_environment; SH3_Mod_TransparentTorpedoBackgroundScreen; Better_Damage_Texture_V2; Bow Fix Type VIIB; BlueNightMap (not working); Daily Contact Report 1.01; DialsFdb2; Dark_Crew_Screen2; ImprovedSmoke1_1; Hospital Ship v1.0; Improved_deck_compass_VII_v1.1(1.4 ready); T2Range; NeuUZO_ Periscope v.2; fullvulnerability; Conning_tower1.4B (not working); Avg.Joes Torpedo & Deck gun speed-of-sound explosions delay v1.2+; lighthouse (working); RealDC_2; integrated orders; monkey wrench; stopwatch (not working); JCW_Intro - various loading screens (not working). ??? What did I do wrong, I used JSGME to install them all after extracting them in the Mod folder in SH3. Robert. :( Now I will have to wait until I return to base to see what went wrong. :-?

Oh, I'm sorry about your diseases, I understand why you wouldn't wish it to anyone, nor even to your enemies.
About the mods, I can only think that they're not working because they're in the wrong folders, or because some other mod used the same files, and you didn't notice. It's really strange because they should work without any problem in-game. Cheers |
Can't understand it, Used JSGME to install all mods.
I believe the lighthouse mod is working as I left St. Nazaire at night and there was a lighthouse "light" at the harbour entrance and I never noticed that before. Perhaps the realistic hull is working because the bridge has rust on it now, never noticed that before, but I cannot see the outside of the sub to see if there is any rust there :-? . I can't figure out how to get an external view of the sub underwater to see if the Bow Cable Fix is working :( I guess I'll have to wait until I am back in port to see what went wrong and why your New Intro Loading screen isn't working. How deep do I have to go to see the sub underwater (external view)? I have already reached my patrol area and passed three ships but they were not spotted and I thought they should have been. I received no radio traffic even though I installed that mod. Am I going to have to remove all of the mods I installed yesterday and start over again? Or perhaps I can read the install instructions to see where I might have gone wrong. Can I see what's wrong with the loading screens before I return to port and try to fix it?
|
Uhm, I really don't know what's happening to your game. Quite strange. :-?
I'm afraid that still I don't get it, I don't have a solution. To discard the folders problem, the best you can do is install the mods one by one, and check where they exactly go into. Cheers  |
As I mentioned in another thread I installed a bunch of mods with the JSME and theyall went into the Ubisoft folder....because I installed the JSME there instead of the SHIII folder as I was supposed to.
I simply selected all the files and folders laying about loose in the UBisoft folder.... which were doing nothing and the game was running in the pristine unmodded condition.....and moved the lot of them over to the SHIII folder. After a flurry of overwriting which took a couple of minutes...to my great amazement the game was perfectly modded and runs fine. :hmm: |
My JSGME is in my c:/PF/Ubisoft/SH3 folder
I copied all the mods into the mod folder that JSGME built and extracted them there, then run JSGME for each one separately after extracting . The mod would appear on the left hand side and then I would move it to the right side and followed the procedure for installing. I don't know what happened. :damn: Do I have to wait until I finish this mission I am on now to remove them all and start all over again? Robert. Can someone get back to me right away, as I have nothing to do at the moment as I have finished my patrol. It was the dullest one I have had so far. I saw enemy ships relatively close on the map and they should have been spotted, but were not. I received no messages, no radio. nothing! Help! Thanks.

I looked and they were not there!
After finishing my patrol I thought I would manually look to see if the mods had been installed. I noticed everything was in the root directory of SH3 and there was nothing in the places where they were supposed to be. :damn: So I manually placed everything I could when I had instructions where they should go. Now I will run the game to see what happens. Let's hope everything works correctly now. The only problem I had is I did not know where to place the 360° bearing plotter for navigation map. The instructions didn't say anything. Oh well. It has various choices of the type, like dark, light, x2 scale light, and the default. I don't know where to put them or which one I should use. Robert.

Robert,
There are different options for unzipping files in general (either they are .zip, .rar or .7z). a) It's "extract here" or extract under under a directory created according to the filename. Also sometimes modders make mistakes and zip their mods in a non JSGME compliant way. So, sometimes the final result in the mods folder is the following: /mods/<mod_name>/<mod_name>/data/.../ instead of the correct /mods/<mod_name>/data/.../ I happened to me some times also, wondering what went wrong. Check your mods folder for any inconsistencies like that. Best, VonHelsching |
The program crashed
Well, I did just about everything I could and I still get Windows Error report screen when trying to load my career. So, it looks like I will have to burn all the Mods to a CD and reinstall the game. I will have to find the MV whatever and ver 1.4b. ANd the program JSGME in order for it to work after I reinstall the game. That looks like the only thing I can do. I've tried repair, I've tried restore to a previous date, nothing worked. :damn: So for now I going to copy all the mods to a CD. If anyone can think of what I should do, then I would appreciate the advice. It's a lot of work to start all over again. I was lucky that I backed up my saved games, so I still have them. HELP! Robert

I just happen to notice something!
When I looked in my Silent Hunter III root directory c:\Program Files/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter III, besides the program JSGME.exe, I found all the extracted folders along with the tga files and readme files for all the instalations I did on Apr 11 and Apr 13. These extracted folders were also in the MOD folder. I don't think this is the way it is supposed to happen. :-? Am I correct on this assumption? I knew something was wrong when I played SH3 yesterday because none of the patches showed up in the game and the things that were supposed to be added to the game were not there and nothing was happening in the game. So, that's when I started reading the instruction sheets that came with each mod I installed. What I did next was to manually put the files where there were supposed to be because they where not there, they were in the root directory. That's when the program crashed after trying to load my career and I received the Windows' error reoprt. Now I'm not that great on deciphering those reports and I did not send them to Microsoft. I just clicked on the "do not send" and then the SH3 quit and I was back to my desktop theme.
So, what I plan to do is, first remove the files I installed manually, and put the backup files back in. Then I will run JSGME.exe which is my generic mod enabler v 1.4.0.49 and remove each mod from the activated list. I also noticed that I have RUb1.45 which was installed on April 4th. On Apr 4, it seems that all those mods (6 of them) worked when running SH3, but the mods extracted after that date, did not work when running SH3. I think because the files extracted in two places, the root directory and the MOD folder. :damn: So, first thing I am going to do, while waiting for an answer from someone to clear this situation up is to start removing the mods using the mod enabler and move the activated from the right back to the left side. Them I will wait for a response from someone. Robert |
Hello 250!
I don't know if this could help or if you have tried it allready: I got some problems to install mods using JSGM couple weeks ago. I think the mistake I did was I forgot uninstall and reinstall clean copy of SHIII before I made major changes. After I did that - no problems anymore. This might be irrelevant but I think I noticed you installed some mods maybe two times, because they are allready in RuB. If you are using RuB 1.45 it's a long list of encluded mods... I think you have studied them but maybe it would be a good idea you to check them again. There's no need to do same job twice. If you can't solve the problem but forced to get clear and patched installation of SHIII don't forget to check (manually) that ALL previus SHIII and Mod files will be removed from your computer before new installation. I forgot to do that and so I was unable to patch the game. Sry my poor english but maybe you could understand. -RC- |
