Chessmatch II: Tak v Torplexed--FINISHED: 0-1

I'll take Sky's lead here and start one myself. I do not own a chess computer and will not be using any programs, nor will I consult paper reference as I do not like to do so when playing, even via correspondence. I also will use full notation. Here goes:

1. e2-e4

I will be teaching for the rest of the night, but I will check back tomorrow to see my opponent, trusting that someone will take up from here.

Happy hunting! Or what does one say in chess? In my old chess club, during my youth, our trainer always simply said "Bringt sie um!"

Torplexed 03-21-06 10:12 PM

Tak needs game. Time to drag out my hideous purple and yellow chessboard. My King will be the black periscope.....

1. e7-e5

Heh nice touch on K icon torplexed :D :arrgh!:

Torplexed 03-22-06 07:01 AM

Thanks scandium. Drew this chess set up in CorelDraw real quick. Doubt you'll ever see it being manufactured by the Franklin Mint. ;)

Awesome countermove !

I can see a checkmate coming up within 15 moves both sides.

Skybird 03-22-06 08:00 AM

Congrats for having started a match! Good luck to both combatants!

Oberon 03-22-06 11:29 AM

Classic opening moves there for both

Leaves room for castling the King

While the players crunch their brains for the next moves, I'll entertain you with a quote:

Who said this ?

"I failed to make the chess team because of my height."

Takeda Shingen 03-22-06 04:26 PM

Alright! The cartoon man cometh.

1....e7-e5 (previous move)

I'll play:

2. Ng1- f3

I almost never play 2. f4, as I despise pawn sacrifices in the opening, even though I could apply extra pressure on black's weak f7 square by doing so. I prefer to exploit positional advantage via center control found in the Petrov or, my favorite, Ruy Lopez.

Yes! Ruy Lopez!

2...Nb8-c6 (previous move)

My move:

3. Bf1-b5

Time to make me move that bishop. :D

Torplexed 03-22-06 09:21 PM

Yes! :D The Ruy Lopez...I believe this little pawn maneuver was known as the Morphy Defense. Funny how some of these terms stick in your head years later.

3. 3. Bf1-b5 ...your move

3. a7-a6

BTW I dislike pawn sacrifices too. More fun to husband one's forces for the climatic battles ahead.
