Interesting. I didn't know it was a muslim that invented coffee. Imagine what a horrible world it would be without it.

*Patiently waiting for the islamophobes to reply to this thread.*

PS. the link is broken, drop the period at the end.

hehe :hmm: *rises to the bait*
nothing like a well developed sense of inferiority to liven up the history of a culture - Yes! look how great an benevolent we are with all these wonderous inventions that we discovered before you... maybe so, but you should hear some of the things the arabs claim to 'belong' to them by way of invention. And please where's the grace and cultural sensitivity in being discreetly modest?
I dig their architecture and geometry though.

I won't bother furnishing this thred with links, that's what google is for.

I’ll still take some pride knowing that some of the more recent inventions of my people (the Irish and Ukrainians) may literately blow them away in the near future…

Irish Inventors:
Louis Brennan: Wire Guided Torpedo.
John Phillip Holland: Modern Military Submarine.
Sir James Martin: Aircraft Ejector Seat.
John Walker: Caterpillar Track

Ukrainian Inventors:
Sergey Korolev: Sputnik and Vostok ‘nuff said
Igor Sikorsky: The helicopter
Vladimir Chelomei: Proton Rocket, launch vehicle of the 1st space station.
Alexander Morozov: Tank Designer.
Alexander Samakula: anti-reflective coating for optical lenses.

What have Moslem Inventors does for us lately? The IED?

Does disagreeing with distortions of history qualify as "Islamophobia"?

I remember when this letter was published, in protest to a chock-full-of-nuts lecture given by Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett Packard.

Regarding this new 1001 Inventions site and exhibit, read what the science nerd community has to say (very difficult to follow).

I want to thank all muslim inventors for their brilliance. Too bad they dont seem to make muslims like that anymore.

You seem to be all confused. Surely you meant to refer to this. :hmm:

You must be referring to kamikazes.

In which case, you are wrong.

Actually I was talking about the Japanese school children that were taught to jump under an American tank with a satchel charge and blow them selves up.

Also at the Battle of Okinawa Japanese soldiers (and some local women!) would blow them selves up with their hand grenades when capture seemed likely. Although this was more of a version of "Seppuku" (ritual suicide by disembowelment) than suicide bombing some Allied soldiers were killed.

"Pop quiz: Who were the first suicide bombers?

It's sort of a trick question. Depends on the style of suicide you're talking about. If you count kamikazes, then the Japanese air force gets the honor, if it is one. If you mean vehicular mass-manslaughter--guys in trucks or cars bumping over the curb to double park'n'explode outside US embassies, then the real trendsetters were those Shiites who drove their truck into American, French and Israeli bases in Lebanon in the early eighties.

But if you're talking about simple pedestrian suicide-bombers, the kind who stroll around wearing those fashionable TNT vests, the ones who drift into fast-food strip malls in Jerusalem and pull their instant-hamburger string...well, it's pretty clear who gets the credit for that. That distinction goes to those underrated killers, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, or LTTE for short. The LTTE did its first walking suicide-bomb in 1987, killing 40-odd government soldiers in some hellhole called Nelliyadi...

Sri Lanka's one of those tropical hellholes that changed its name when the Brits left. Burma turned into Myanmar and Ceylon -- like the tea -- turned into Sri Lanka. It's a little droplet-shapes island off the southeast tip of India. And it's one of those wonderful multi-ethnic countries where people spend most of their time killing each other. The players here are the Sinhalese, who are maybe two-thirds of the population, and the Tamils, who are the other third. The Sinhalese hang out in the South and West of the island and the Tamils stick to the northeast. The Sinhalese are Buddhists, the Tamils are Hindus."

Tamil's are not only Hindus, but Christians, Muslims etc. But surely Majority of them are Hindus. Tamil's are an ethnic community. The problem in Srilanka is a very complicated one. LTTE is a terrorist organistaion banned in India for carrying out terrorist operation in India and killing the Indian Prime Minister Shri. Rajiv Gandhi. The LTTE leader Prabhakaran is wanted in India.

Tamil's are the people who speak the Tamil language, like the French are the on'e's who speak the French Language.
