Game taking about 4-5 minutes to load!

Is this just my computer? or is that the time it takes fo you all to start the game? like 4 minutes every time I want to jump into the boat.
and about 6 munutes the fist time i start the game.
this has been a major turn off for me with subsimming, I have the all but because of this issue , I don't subsim for about a year now. please help . :nope:

I have a pretty decent system,
1,9ghz
128 mb nvidia card, (I had another nvidia with only 64mb and it was not a compatible card for the game so I bopught the128 mb obe)
256 mb ram
directx 9.0c

You're a little on the low side... I think the optimal RAM for SH3 is 1gb.

sam3d 12-16-05 10:45 PM

You think it's me RAM? :hmm:

Marhkimov 12-16-05 11:02 PM

possibly, let's wait and see what someone else thinks...

Upgrade to 1gig of ram and you will think you have a new computer .

:yep:

Yep, more RAM the better I've got 2gig and SH3 loads much quicker, even the museum too

Some of the mods are very large. IuB 1.02 and RuB 1.45 are about as large as the game. With only one gb of memory you are spilling over to the hard drive for virtual memory. I have 1 gb and the game loads fast witlhout mods, but it takes about five minutes to load with either mod. It runs fine once loaded tho.

My computer:

-3.0 GHz P4
-1 GB RAM
-160 GB Hard Drive, Defragmented
-WinXP, SP2, DX9c
-ATI x850xt

My load times are long!!! It probably takes 40-50 seconds to load up the menu and another 3 or 4 minutes to load up a campaign or single mission game! Is this normal? Its kind of bugging me :P

Soviet_Warlord 12-17-05 01:55 AM

Dammit double post why did it do that, sorry

CptGrayWolf 12-17-05 02:35 AM

256 RAM? I din't even know SH3 would run on that.
Consider RAM like oil in your car ( or sub ), the more you have the smoother things will run. :know:

about 40s for me with 1 gig ram. So not so fast. I think CPU has a lot to do with this as well. I have a AMD2500+ which is 1.83ghz. It's not fastest for sure. But yes, RAM is best to upgrade in your case. (cheapest too).

Thats odd that it takes that long to load for you...My system matches yours almost exactly in CPU speed and memory. It takes about 30-40 seconds to load after the Starforce check come up and after I click on a campaign or single mission it takes maybe 50 seconds to 1 minute for mine to load and get into the game.

I use RUB mod and alot of other mods on top of it.

Up till September, I had a P4 2.4 with 256 MB of Rambus ram (not too cheap to upgrade). It would take 2 + minutes to load the game and then 4 + to get into the boat. :damn:

I now have a Pentium D (Dual core) 3.0 with 1 Gb ram and the game loads in less than 20 seconds and I get to the boat in 20 - 30 seconds.

Ever since I installed the 16KM View Mod, RUb edition, my Sh3 startup takes longer than before and my career patrol startup takes ages!

I plan on uninstalling it after I complete my current patrol. I hope that will restore the previous startup times, which also took time but were never this bad. :nope:

rulle34 12-18-05 01:16 PM

I noticed a huge improvement when I upgraded from 1 --> 2 GB RAM :yep:
Other programs running in the background also takes power, especially if you have a low end computer

GT182 12-18-05 03:38 PM

Also note that if you have an abundance of mods installed, that too will slow down load times. All that has to work it's way into the game.

I've a P4 3.2E with 2 gigs of DDR 400 RAM. Even with a fresh defrag of my 120gig SATA HDD, my SHIII takes it's time to load.

Just be patient with it and you'll get to play. At least you can play where some others can't at all... be grateful for that. ;)

Type941 12-18-05 03:48 PM

shutting photoshop down when playing SH3 certainly heps with the load times - by 20s or so. I'm at about 50s now after mod instals and 1.10s for museum.
