SH4
So I guess as I got sent this, that SH4 got green lighted a little faster than I thought. Excellent.
Ahoy TDK1044! Silent Hunter IV - Pacific Campaign Silent Hunter IV - Pacific Campaign is slated to begin early 2006. Ubi is assembling a dev team from the SH3 group and new programmers. I just spoke with one of the DEVS. This seems to be true, Guys. Merry Christmas!

Woot!

I think the DEVS learnt a lot from SH3, and are eager to produce an outstanding SH4. Whether we'll be the Japs of the Americans will probably be a closely guarded secret for a while.

Other things I'd like to see: - A more elaborate campaign, so not just "Patrol sector XY for 24 hours". - Higher resolution (1024x768 just doesn't cut it these days) And that's it basically. |

Freakin Awesome. Wonder if we'll get to play as either side?
Would be neat to have that Jap sub that carried the plane....... :|\ |
Would be even better, if one could actually fly that plane in multiplayer.... :arrgh!:

On a more serious point, I wonder whether the developers will limit the gameplay to the Americans (the most obvious thing to do), given that the Dutch and British were also present during this time. Also, I don't think we will be seeing anything in terms of Screenshots or specifications for a few years yet. If they are building a game from scratch, then this is going to be a long haul. Which is good, because I haven't survived the war in the U-boats yet |
Great news!
I think well be playing as the japaneese becaus ethe game has to get harder as time goes on and as the yanks it would probably get easier. However the US subs did a huge amount in the pacific (sinking about 50% of all tonnage sunk so we may be playing as them. |

The Dutch Navy was very active in the East-Indies. Oh, and since no-one brought up StarForce yet....I read somewhere (forgot where, though :( ), that UbiSoft is considerring going for a different copy-protection for their future-releases. Allthough I don't have problems with SF, I still hope that they will drop it, as it drove many customers away from SHIII. |
Good news indeed :sunny: :sunny:

its an expansion so does that not mean they will be using the SH3 engine and building on that? my biggest hope is that they make the campaign a lot more immersive. SH3 sure looks pretty but if u look at the amount of mods out there that tells u how good it was out the box.
i just dont feel like im involved in a uboat war playin SH3. its more just like a series of random battles |

Those are my feelings too. Im really looking foward to SH4 ! BTW TDK could you please do something about that avatar it is most disturbing ;) |
I honestly think the DEVS learnt a lot from their SH3 experience, and I would expect SH4 to be an awesome sim. The DEVS are aware of the mistakes that were made with SH3, but are also justifyably proud of their work on SH3. They are also very aware of the opinions expressed in this and other forums. They are motivated and eager to get going on this new project. SH4 is going to be really something.

Let's hope for the best...
An expansion would be good. With many side, many campaign to play... I loved sailing from the german port to attack allied shipping,but...sometime,i've wondered how will should be fighting for "The Other Side" Maybe we should start a petition :) DISCLAIMER:This is not a rant...mmm,well,maybe a bit...but it's for a better WWII subsim Even with his flaw SH3 was an incredible game, one of the few title that i played for the most time.I would love to see the game EXPANDED and IMPROVED. I hope Ubisoft will understand this: Better product and good support means a customer more versed to buy your product. A product rushed or not totally developed and unsupported means one less customer. Come on guy, make a masterpiece, something that people will talk about for years! I've talked too much. I hope to ride the wave of many virtual sea in the future! |
This is the best news I've heard about a sim release in a long, long time. Not since the original Silent Hunter has there been a modern, 3D graphics sim of the Pacific "Silent Service." Although nobody knows exactly what SH4 will be comprised of, I can't imagine it not having the American forces as the heart of the sim.
Imagine the probabilities (possibilities?)...another (patch) to SH3 based on improvements made while creating SH4, campaign/missions that place you in the vicinity of the four major carrier battles, surviving an extended patrol in the shallow China Sea, commanding a sub with 6 forward tubes and 4 aft! This sim should include a higher instance of Task Force engagements since the Pacific War was much more a naval war. Land and Air forces were much more dependent on the navies of both sides; a major difference from the Atlantic. I can't wait! scrapser |
