The following guesses are actually for the next 10 years, in my opinion.

I think that it's possible that Sweden and Austria will leave the EU. And maybe Switzerland, Romania, and Bulgaria will join? (not Norway or Andorra though). the UK might too I guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was another Al-Quada attack on a G-8 country. My own country Canada is the only nation on Al-Quada's attack list which has not been attacked. :o :dead: We're hardly the world's most important target though. :smug:

I wouldn't be surprised either if a Soviet/Russian nuclear weapon found its way into a terrorist attack somewhere. Russian security is not what it used to be from what I've heard, and there are reports that some uranium is unaccounted for. I forget where I read that though. Maybe there will be a major confrontation with insurgents in Chechnya.

Maybe there will be Chinese-US war over Taiwan. I don't think the Chinese have the military force to take on the US right now, so maybe they won't risk such a war.

I don't really know how US-Iranian/Syrian relations are going to end up. Same with Venezuala.

If you want to believe a nutcase like Nostradamus, there will be a complete change in the lineup of powerful nations by 2025. I read that somewhere. :88) :rotfl:

Or maybe...Universal Records will finally release Bachman-Turner Overdrive's Japan Tour Live on CD. :damn: I'd bet on Chinese democracy before that though - either the supposed Guns N Roses CD or actual Chinese democracy :rotfl:.

Seriously though, I think it is obvious that the world is heading into a period of major change - what the outcome will be is best left to history. Of course, we can always guess :hmm:. History may make us look ridiculous though. But who cares. :know:

Enough rambling for me for now... :88)

kiwi_2005 11-22-05 09:24 PM

NZ gets a 9/11 type attack, because our lack of milartary protection. The terriost use NZ as target practice. :88)

Oberon 11-23-05 01:09 AM

More attacks in Western countries, I think that goes without saying.
As for the rest, well, there's always China and Taiwan.

Heh, I try not to think of tomorrow, let alone the next year or two :-?

If Russia is going to do this by giving them the energy, they would be shooting to their own leg. Plus the timeframe is too small for this.

What are you talking about. Russian security always amounted to who has the most blat. For those who skipped all your history classes blat is russian for bribe. Last time I checked the terrorists were millionaires and vodka is cheaper than water so I think we know where those decommisioned nukles are headed.

One thing I'm certain of is that the Asian Pacific Rim will eclipse the US in sheer economic wealth within the next 30 to 40 years and that the American Empire will be no more. However I'm not sure if it'll be CHina alone. India is also on the rise and its workforce is younger than CHina's so they might stand to do better than China. That and they follow old Commonwealth laws so that makes it easier to trade with them from a western democracy standpoint. Though between Russian and America's trade deficit I figure China will make some kind of major move in the next 20 years to assert itself. Maybe Taiwan or Mongolia or some nearby country that has something they want. I'm not sure if America would actually fight for Taiwan if China invaded. Americans seem to have short patience when it comes to war. They get tired and want out after 2 years so Im not sure if the politicians can sell it. China would certainly put its whole force into it and assert a "total war" strategy while the US I think is incapable of total war anymore.

Oh the joys of speculation.

As for the short term I figure that the US will pull out Iraq ala Vietnam (Vietnamization) and then a civilwar will erupt before a warlord asserts himself. Bush will be followed up by an even more psychotic republican ruler and drive the US farther into deficit and scare the bejezzeus out of everyone with agressive jongoistic policies and the quality of life in the US will slowl;y decline as social programs are scrapped because the Democrats have so few seats that the Republicans can do anything they want (which will be justified with a social darwinist explanatoin). Canada will pull out of NAFTA as we continue to get screwed every week and we'll begin to trade more with China (grrr). The US will eventually be booted from the UN and left to rot in economic limbo as everyone turns away to the new boy in town: CHina.

XabbaRus 11-23-05 05:05 AM

Actually Nuke security is one thing the Russians have improved on with help from the US.

They know the risks as much as anyone.

I therefore wouldn't worry about a nuke.

I would worry about radioactive stuff to make dirty bomb. There is plenty of that if you know where to look.

Oil will be much less important than it is today in the next 10 years, Hugo Chavez is sustained by Oil, he buys his necessary majority (population, politicians, judges, etc.) with the money from Oil, he keeps Cuba alive with Oil and with the money he makes from Oil, if in the next 10 years the world starts adapting to other sources of energy, and if Hugo Chavez is still in power, he will go bankrupt, he destroyed Venezuela and he likes to work for the poor so much he increased poverty in the country, he is isolated in the Havana-Caracas-Buenos Aires Axis, now we all know what happens to alienated Axis that decide to fight against the rest of the world. The US won't have to move one finger unless Chavez strikes first, which is bad for the rest of Latin America, as he finances Coup attempts, guerrillas, drug smugglers and who knows what else, it would be much easier for everybody if the US assassinated Chavez, however, it is best, afterall, in the long term, to let him rot to death naturally, otherwise the myth would survive.

:) I agree with the great majority of predictions already posted here. However, I would add a few more predictions.

The North American economy in general will take a significant down fall well within the next 5 years. Most of the major manufacturers here in North America will turn to overseas manufacturing within 5 years. This next down fall in the economy will rival the economic down fall of 1991.

Personal debt and credit card debt will increase. Energy prices will increase for electricity where Smart Metering is installed. Taxes will increase and service charges will increase, as well new service charges being introduced in the energy sector.

Thank goodness there will be 5 more Subsim/Subclub meetings.

bradclark1 11-24-05 11:12 PM

I'd think that's a given U-552Erich-Topp, except for the Smart Metering as I have no idea what that is.
