Better Damage Texture available
It's a small mod but I notice nobody has changed it, so here ya go!

I couldn't find it :|\
|
Does that indeed change something? :hmm:
|
You said nobody has changed it before? Then what damage texture is this? ´Coz torpedo damage and shell texture´s have been changed in RuB. :)
|
It should be available by tonight.
Yes indeed it does change the stock texture that RUB improved but the texture I have used is a series of real images of torn metal, not just the blackened scoring that previously was available. See for yourself :know: |
My only concern is that the scarring in the screenshot is so faint, I can hardly see it...
|
I see what you mean, perhaps this will help:
http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/1632/damage1fk.jpg http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/282/damage28zk.jpg To compare with RUB texture.... http://img416.imageshack.us/img416/3...bdamage2kf.jpg There you go, I hope you find these to your liking. FYI: Damage done by shells and torpedoes all use the same damaged metal texture, since these are above water, one could assume they are shell damage. :D |
Does have a certain 3D effect... could use a bit more dark scorching... worth a try...

Aha!, that's what I wanted to see. Heavy damage. Now I can put it into the list. :D
EDIT: Wait, no, I can't. Who made it? :ping: |

The mod itself seems to look good, but is something wrong with your monitor or your screenshot program? It's almost like there's a layer of haze obscuring the image (no, it doesn't seem to be ingame fog).
|
Hmm... that's right. Now that you mention it, it does seem hazy...
|
I love the 3d effect! I`ll give it a try as soon as I go on my next patrol on WaW!
Thanks! |
Has anyone tried playing the Bismarck single mission and using the external camera to pan around?
The framerate drags to a halt after about a minute as the Bismarck gets pumelled, due to all the transparent decal textures being applied as scorch-marks. The worst effect though is that as the hull of the Bismarck gets blacker and blacker, the gun turrets don't register any hits so remain completely clean. Looks weird. If I were the devs I would have limited the decals to a maximum number per ship and furthermore, made the effect more consistent. |
I don't use high res textures for my ships any more so it looks hazy up close, otherwise my display is clean, AFAIK.
I am wondering why it matters who made the mod. Seems odd considering this is a site to aid the SH3 community. Is there a dues I need to pay to join the club I mssed out on? LOL I noticed a major reduction in performance myself when taking care of a convoy with the deck gun. Many decals on numerous ships and such. Altho it seems to me that each decal is not an individual texture but the damage texture is mapped to cover large parts of the ship's hull and each hit reveals more of the total texture. Bits at a time as it were. |
I tried it ingame and it was great. You really get the impression that your weapons are tearing holes in the ships, especially with the larger damage decals. Nice work  .
|
Glad you like it! I have darkened it a bit and increased the contrast in the alpha channel so it shows up more clearly than the pics indicate. I will let you know when it's ready for DL.
|
All set. I ULed V2 this Thursday, should be ready for DL in a day or so. I will keep it a separate mod for the modem users and those picky buggers
Enjoy ripping your enemies to shreds! And keep the feedback coming in! Totenkopf "Only through insanity can we truly appreciate being sane." |

Do I get the impression from what you said that your damage mod will have LESS effect on our FPS than the standard damage transparancies in RUb and IUB ??? It is a real bugger to watch your FPS drop to single digits when large explosions or sea battles occur like the Bismarck and I hope your damage mod will help in that matter. |
