Better to be prepared before starting a new channel ;-)

I was looking for some sh3 irc channels but with not result. (quakenet, ircnet, even freenode :) ). My non-sh3 friends are getting bored when I'm telling them about my patrols ;-) But I still supply them with news from the front ;-)

Not voice, IRC is a shortcut for Internet Relay Chat. It's text based. It's real time text chat.

You people are not joking? You really didn't know what the IRC is?
/me feels old or something ;-)

What is IRC?
IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a virtual meeting place where people from all over the world can meet and talk; you'll find the whole diversity of human interests, ideas, and issues here, and you'll be able to participate in group discussions on one of the many thousands of IRC channels, on hundreds of IRC networks, or just talk in private to family or friends, wherever they are in the world.

Short Answer - YES - an original idea at last!

Now whether you (as the originator of the idea) choose an IRC or ICQ or AOL is your totally choice...... and base language, again your choice - personally, I am happy with German French or English!

I assume this will be a live chat and as it (internet) it is also Worldwide and the time zones become irrelevant (for insomniacs) so that SH3 chats in realtime - with 'kindred spirits' can be achieved at any time - I like that!

I would suggest that there should also be a freedom to discuss all topics and aspects of the game and even it's historic environment - for all connected users .... perhaps whoever is on at the time steers the topic of the hour?

it would be packed at the moment with this X1 thing going off...

Sounds cool though.

Syline 09-25-05 01:34 PM

Sure! I've been looking for an active sh3 irc channel myself with no result. Quakenet would be preferable. ;)

FAdmiral 09-25-05 07:03 PM

If someone makes a channel for the SH3 users, I would think
many of them would populate it....

I guess it's like that. I have never used MSN. But java www chats are simmilar to irc. The difference is that you don't use WWW browser but IRC client. Like mIRC for windows, Xchat or some irssi/epic4/bitchX for linux and unix like systems. Some multi-instant-messangers probabely can be also used as irc clients (like gaim, miranda, kopete) but some of them are not too comfortable. If you are using MS Windows i suggest mIRC. If you prefer Linux and Xwindows, than Xchat. If linux/unix and text console - irssi or epic4.

IRC is not limited to one channel like java www chats and it's not limited to one operating system like MSN.

As somebody said - channel at Quakenet would be prefered. http://www.quakenet.org (there is FAQ section there)

QuakeNet is an IRC network, built around the gaming community, and is an organisation that facilitates the communication of many teams and online organisations. Though originally founded as a chat network for gamers, by gamers, QuakeNet welcomes everyone to chat about anything (within its rules). QuakeNet is also currently the largest chat network in the world, with a peak usercount each week of around 180,000 to 190,000 users (as listed by http://irc.netsplit.de/networks/).
