So....what DOES make the rain go away?
I seem to recall some time back there was a bug that once time acceleration was EVER set to '1024x' in a game, you'd never see any rain in that game session.
But I THOUGHT that was fixed. Anyway, I'm curious. I've never seen rain in the game. Not once. Since buying the game all those months back, I've had a GeForce 6200TC, GeForce 6600GT, GeForce 6800GT, Radeon X300, and a Radeon X800XL in two completely different PCs. And I've NEVER seen rain in the game! Stormy weather, sure. Weather so bad the F&#)@%* crew wouldn't get on the deck gun, and the watch were all in rain gear with incredibly overcast skies and lightning flashing everywhere....but not once a drop of rain! Thoughts? |
Can't really help you, sorry, but I get rain and when it rains it pours!! so I wonder why you don't, a most interesting problem
|
Do you ask for a weather report in bad weather? If it says there is rain, but you can't see any, you have at least narrowed it down to being a hardware issue.
I don't see rain very often, but when I do, it usually increases to max after a while, and it becomes almost impossible to see clearly through it. And normally it's accompanied by heavy fog. This is not realistic, but I pretend that the report says 'poor visibility' instead, which makes it acceptable (maybe it's possible to hack the weather message?). So you've actually been quite lucky so far, I think, if you've had no rain... :ping: |
Sounds strange I've played last night and found a large convoy on my return to base.Used TC 1024 a lot of times to get to my assigned grid.
I had two eels left. It was storm and rain. Not just a little bit rain but a lot. Gave me good cover to intercept the convoy and sink a troop ship with my last to eels. SHIII 1.4 Gf6600 gt |
Confirm that. I get rain too, eventhough I used TC 1024
Rain workes better in 1.4 too: http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopi...034&highlight= |
If you're patched to 1.4, the rain should work well. I get a lot of rain.

I got rain for 2 days & nights straight and I have been to 1024.
It eventually stopped but had storms & rough seas for 2 more days. Then it cleared to partly cloudy for 1 more day and then went to calm seas finally. When you surface, if crew comes up to the conning tower in raincoats, you can't use the deck or flak gun. When they are in reg. shirts, you can.... JIM PS. Using Patch 1.4b & RUB 1.41 (X600 PCIE video card) |
@XanderF
what DOES make the rain go away? In your case no rain clouds :rotfl: :-j |
I never play above 512x
|
I should have mentioned that I play at 4096, and well as I said in the post above it still rains
|
I WISH I could get rid of the darn rain!!!!
I was in a storm for almost 3 weeks one time....followed me across the North Sea, down the western coast of Ireland, and down past Spain until I was at the Canary Islands.... And I have no luck hunting anything in a storm....I never seem to catch sight of anything until it's about 350 meters away, and by the time I fire it's closed to under 300 and the torps don't arm.... |

In line 4128 of that file (the German one), you could replace "nebel" (fog) with "Sichtbehinderung" (visibility impairment/obstruction). I haven't had a chance to test this, but it seems like it should work - I'll go give it a whirl and see what happens. [edit] just tried it - works great - PLUS while on my test run I saw my first task force (in all these many months of playing) :o While I was patrolling on the surface in daylight just off the east coast of England in mid September 1939, having just sunk my first ship of this career the previous night (a nice British C2), I sighted a warship ahead coming out of the mists about 4km away. I dove to periscope depth and took a look, and several more ships began appearing - eventually it looked like 2 heavy units (maybe KGV class, but probably cruisers) escorted by 4 destroyers, but they were too far away and moving too fast on a diverging course for me to have any hope of getting a shot at them with my little Type IIA. Somewhat frustrating to have to let them steam away like that, but still, it was an awesome sight. |

I dunno? |
Has anyone else noticed when the weather is bad, if you sneak into a harbor it always seems to greatly improve the weather when you return to open seas? Several times now I have been on a long patrol with relentless 15kn winds and heavy fog, but if I snuck into a harbor, within a few hours the sun is shining and the seas are like glass. Is that a bug? The protected harbor definitely makes the seas calmer, and it seems to fool the program into ending the storm. Of course, I could be off base here, as I only have a few isolated data points to make that conclusion.

Could be a coincidence, but I noticed the exact same thing yesterday. 15m/s winds, heavy rain... until I entered St.Nazaire. Then the weather got a lot calmer (6m/s winds, no rain, overcast).

Anyway, the messages would have to be 'reversed' as well, so the entries 4120=None 4121=Medium 4122=Heavy 4128=Clouds %s, Precipitations %s, Fog %s|Wind Speed %d meters per second, direction %3d. Should be changed to 4120=Unlimited 4121=Medium 4122=Poor 4128=Clouds %s, Precipitations %s, Visibility %s|Wind Speed %d meters per second, direction %3d. ..or something similar, for those who'd like to try. Any suggestions for German replacements for the visibility factors? Thanks again for the tip! Regards, Nopileo |
A Mod a day.... ?

I didn't actually test this conclusion though, and now I can see that there's another set of modifiers (lines 4120-4122 in the German file) that might be being used for the rain separate from the ones used for the fog (been a while since I saw any rain, so I couldn't remember what modifers it was using for rain) - if so, then reversing the fog-related ones would let you use plain "visibility" and more suitable modifiers as you suggest - I'll have to go test that out in a bit. [edit] Sure enough - the rain report is using the other set of modifiers, so reversing the ones for "fog" works fine with just plain "visibility". I have settled on the following German text changes for now - there seem to be several ways of saying these same things (some of which are probably more correct, since my German is rather rusty, so I welcome input/corrections from any of our real German speakers on how to improve this): replace "nebel" with "Sichtbarkeitsbereich" in line 4128 and use the following revised modifiers: 4100=Unbegrenzter 4101=mittlerer 4102=kurzer 4103=Äußerst kurzer Good luck, and good hunting! |
Thanks.
I'm at work now, so I don't have the files as reference, but are these referring to rain or fog? I see that you are using 4 modifiers and the lines are different, so I assume this is for changing the rain messages? As far as I can remember, fog only has three 'levels' in game. But I haven't tried it in game myself yet, so I'm not sure. Anyway I think the rain message is good enough, but the fog message seemed out of place since there is never 'real' fog when it's raining. That's why I would like to change the fog message to visibility instead. |
