If WW2 was a fashion war
FORGETTING THE POLITICS AND POLICIES OF ALL SIDES during WW2 which uniforms/medals/equipment/vehicles were your favourite or given the chance you would love to wear or use.
I have only included the major combatant powers (as I see) If you have others mention them. PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS A FUN POLL |
Type VIIC early war version. :D
|
Why, an overwhelming 95% thus far. :know:
|
/me likes the full black SS uniform! They look badass!
|
All german subs type I - XXIII, just look better than their contemparies from any other country in WW2.
|
It really pisses me off that the best uniforms we ever had, have been in this era with that political background... our uniforms today really suck
|
US uniforms were a great combination of style and functionality.
|
I'll call for the partisan of course, as it would be my uniform if I had a chance of fighting these years. Putting a small time-fused charche into one of your torpedoes? I'd just love to see it exploding while you'd do a crash dive :D
I just wonder how many of u-boat losses were caused by resistance workers/sabotageurs? There were even mentions in "Das Boot". |
I believe Hugo Boss was behind the design of German uniforms, and if it wasn't for their dorky helmets, the uniforms looked sharp... At the beginning of the war anyway, not in the winter of 1943 in Stalingrad... :dead:
Probably natural that people voted for them. |
if u look closely, the G.I.'s helmets today look like a slightly modified German helmet.
and a little uniform question, in all the WWII movies i see, all teh germans (that fight on foot) have these little cylinder type metal cases on their back. whats that for? |

WWII Germany's political ideology was as warped and evil as it gets, but darned if they didn't look sharp.
|
Yep, the bad guys had sassy uniforms, great for parading. US uniforms didn't look as good, but they looked very businesslike in the field.
Neither side would stand a chance against the armies of the Napoleonic wars, though. Now, that was a fashion war! |
If I spotted a soldier - any soldier - then or now - I wouldn't have a clue as to what nation he belonged to, unless he had a huge flag mounted on his head or tattooed on his forehead (big!).
So I didn't vote... :P Any possibility of screenshots of the uniforms? |
I have to agree, the German uniforms always looked the sharpest. I always thought the standard WWII British blouson-type uniform looked like a potato sack.
|
Why hasn't anyone voted for Italy? Come on guys, those feathery things on the helmets are so chic ... ;)

Political BS aside, the Germans were ahead of their times in respects to certain peices of equipment. The helmet is one of them apparently. Another is the MG42. To this day many machine guns core design can be traced to the MG42. The M60 is inspired by its design if i remember correctly, as well as a bunch of other machine guns that other countires use. Not to mention the MP44 as being the worlds first assault rifle. Subs, well, everyone knows that one. German A Frame Web gear looks vaguly similar to what the Alice LBE while i was in the service. Its also probably not a stretch to say they came up with the worlds first cruise missles. Anyway, watch the history channel long enough, you'll see all sorts of useless knowledge :88) |

may be it's the photo, but they look somewhat nasty on those pics.
I think the part that always made them 'evil' looking are the black gloves. Actually, some russian uniforms looked kind of intersting, especially the late war type. And I always liked the winter ones: http://rkkaww2.armchairgeneral.com/u...1.htm#Baltic41 but the big pants always threw me off - why do they have to be wide on top? |
one size fits many - you can always cinch it up with your belt.
When you have to make millions of pairs of pants, it makes more sense to have two sizes: big and small. |
