2022 Winter olympics.
Is anyone watching the Winter Olympics. My lady loves watching the figure skating. I can skate although I'm more geared to Hockey having played so I'm a more graceful caveman and have the caveman drawings on the walls of my home office to prove it. :D
I watched the ski jump / slalom course skiing and it boggles my mind how fast they can go and remain under control. :yep: Speaking of skating, I have been following both the men and women's Hockey teams during the Olympics. They have both looked great although the ladies have been a bit more vicious in the games I have watched and have the penalties to show it. I hope the ladies understand they are ambassador's of the game and of the U.S. The women from Finland and Czechoslovakia looked good as well. The ladies from the U.S soundly beat the Russian ladies team 5-0 The women's Hockey team plays Canada for the Gold medal tomorrow. ( Wednesday ) The women's Canadian team has won against the American's once so this should be a good game and I hope the U.S ladies have a good outing. https://teamusa.usahockey.com/2022olympicwomenschedule https://teamusa.usahockey.com/2022olympicwomenroster Alex Cavallini, Amanda Kessel, alternate captain Brianna Decker, captain Kendall Coyne Schofield, alternate captain Hilary Knight, are back from the last outing. Amanda Kessel is the sister of NHL great, Phil Kessel. A good number of these ladies are from the Massachusetts and upper mid west areas like Minnesota. Win or lose, congratulations this year to a great outing, ladies. I believe this is Hiliary Knight's last game as an Olympian and will retire after this years Olympics conclude. So, is anyone else watching the Olympics and what events are you watching ? |
I'm in complete boycott mode, not helping to rise their viewer numbers. If all TV quotas would have collapsed the IOC and the broadcasters maybe would get the message.
|
I'm a sport freak watch as much as I can. Happy that the Danish ishockey team manage to qualify for the quarter final by beating Letland 3-2.
There they shall up against Russia(ROC) Right now I'm watching two men bobsleigh. Markus |
Only way I’d watch the Winter Olympics is if they held ice fishing competition in my home town of Washburn, WI. Followed up with 12 oz curls and stories of who had biggest fish that got away at Patsy’s Bar.

I pretty much agree with Sky but mainly because of which country is hosting the event.
|
I am not happy with the coverage from US sources. All they seem to focus on are the events where Americans are expected to win medals.
I understand that bias, but I would like to see other events once in a while. Many of the US coverage wastes a lot time with endless repeating of the athlete's back story. Put that stuff on a webpage and free up some time to cover the less trendy events! |

I would have not allowed Russian teams to participate under any alibi fake name alltogether in the loast years. Shows how deeply corrupted and criminal the whole IOC et.al. is Its all political hypocrisy and corruption: IOC, FIFA... them all. It stinks, from top to bottom. |

Meh as long as there’s no check to the head or fighting. Anything else is just good hockey. :yeah: :03: |
Bloody hell Skybird, the Russians have been doping their athletes for bleeding decades, if that skaters coach told her to take that drug as it will win her a gold medal one day do you seriously think she'd decline it?.
Once caught all athletes should be banished from International competition for ever, what's the difference between this skater who took a performance enhancing drug and that American athlete who got banned for smoking cannabis which is not a performance enhancer, the Russian was under age they said, that is not an acceptable excuse. |

The U.S Men's Olympic Hockey team plays tonight. The team to beat as always is Canada for both the men and women's U.S teams. Hockey is practically a religion in Canada so their standing in Hockey is hardly a surprise. What surprises me is how well the German Hockey teams have played. When one thinks of Hockey, countries like Sweden, Norway, Finland, Czechoslovakia and Russia come to mind, aside from the U.S and Canada. They have placed some great players in the NHL. By the way August, whats the deal with Massachusetts and how many professional and Olympic hockey players come from your state or have played in college there. Many from your area are playing in the NHL and Olympics. The only other place like that that I know of is Minnesota that has produced some great players as well. I believe that Aktung lived there and perhaps has some insight as well. |

Hockey has always been huge around here. Kids learn to skate and play at a very young age. We got youth leagues, semi-pro, street hockey and The Bruins who are as popular, (if not more popular to some folks from Southie), than the Red Sox, Celtics or even the Patriots. |

I've watched a minute of luge on youtube. The thing that struck me, nobody cheering, just the guards monitoring the event.:k_confused: I usually love hockey, bobsled and luge. Not this year. Then there's women's hockey. They should just have the US play Canada in a best of 7 series and let them just beat the crap out of each other. |

That makes a lot of sense. I'm guessing it's a regional thing as I know that kids in Canada, not all that far from you, are in some cases I know of, on skates at 2 and before. Literally. Hockey isn't as big in the southern states as it is in the Northern states and for the obvious reasons. The cold climate in the winter and freezing in the northern states and regions there makes for great in prompto skating rinks and Hockey games. :yep: A friends dad made us a makeshift ice skating rink on property they had and I well remember the hard fought hockey games we played on it on cold, snowy and frigid Saturday Mornings / afternoons. :yep: Sometimes, we even got his dad to play too. We won a lot of Stanley Cup finals and Olympic games on that ice but I must have missed out on the medals ceremony and hoisting the Stanley Cup.:haha: My friends dad, who is a great guy and had an equally great sense of humor, gave us one his favorite coffee mugs with tape around it and lettering that said " Stanley's cup. " Somehow, it just wasn't the same. :haha: Well, it's official. The U.S women's Olympic Hockey team lost to Canada in the Gold Medal game 3-2. I stayed up tonight to watch it. I wouldn't have missed it. I expected it to be an uphill battle against the Canadian team. While disappointed for the U.S team, I am happy for the Women's Canadian team. Well done ladies. :Kaleun_Applaud: The Women's Canadian team played behind an incredibly stingy defense and great goal tending. They deserved to win. The Men's U.S Olympic Hockey team also lost to Slovakia last night, letting them tie the game with 30 seconds left on the clock. They played a scoreless overtime only to lose in the shootout. All in all, if you love Hockey, there were great games to be seen in the Olympics this year. Quote:
I thought that the format used by the NHL in the Stanley cup playoffs best of seven as you mentioned, would be great as well. Unfortunately, I think the time constraints of the Olympics would not make that format feasible. It would be great Hockey to see though, no doubt. :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up: |

^ Ah, collective toothache? :hmmm:
:O: :salute: |
Well, the 2022 Winter Olympics are in the history books. I hope your country did well in the medal count. I watched a tight Olympic gold medal Hockey game, late Saturday night between Russia and neighboring Finland with Finland winning it's first ever gold medal. Well done, gentlemen. :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up:
It was a tightly contested game with both teams playing great defense. I hope everyone enjoyed it or any other events they were interested in. |
Sweden did well
Toke 8 Gold, 5 Silver and 5 bronze. My hope that Three Kronor would take a medal in mens ishockey didn't happened-They were weak. Markus |
