Does enabling Auto Target Id in TWOS make Officer tell me ship name?

Hello,
I have enabled Auto Target Id in TWOS, but officer tells me its unknown ship.
Is this right? What I am looking for is officer telling me the ship name

Of course, you have to enable appropriate addon mod with your JSGME first since auto ID is a bit of cheat in essence.:yep:

I have enabled the optional send contact message with auto target id mod, but when in game even if merchant ship is in short range, the officer always says unknown ship when i click identify

I tried with only optional mode auto target id and still its the same thing. I have installed TWOS properly, everthing seems right. Can you give me some pointers to what might be issue

i wanna ask why u bother to identify a ship ???
u only need the target speed, course, and AOB u don't need to know the type of the the ship... set the torpedo depth to 4-5 m and u are fine...also set to impact not to magnetic detonation...

Try it with enabled manual targeting in game settings. If you use auto TDC there is no need to identify anything anyway...

EDIT:
Press space again and turn off auto TDC. Then you will be able to see ship type since with auto TDC ON a ships type info is quite pointless because everything is already done for you. Experiment, explore, read, try and happy hunting!

I am also a NOOB...and I am trying things out...

I think a starting List for New Players would be nice to help with the maze of mod options out there.

The LIST should Start with baby steps..then list in order some mods to activate to build up to full realism...

I have TWO's loaded and really like it so far...The manual Nav and manual TDC should not be used for New Players (in the beginning) IMO...
This way New players will be able to get their feet wet and get hooked.

This is coming from a New players point of view.

Just incase anyone wants to use auto tdc and also know the ship name in twos, you can do that by (below I copied from another thread)

To be able to freely turn on/off your TDC via the WO officer window in the periscope or UZO view, you must go in the OFEV (Option File Editor Viewer) , go in the XOTDC tab and change the last option to 'false'.

when you want ship name, turn auto tdc off in xO and on when you want to shoot with auto tdc, turn it on

OFEV How to use

NAME!

I'm a new guy too.

Name? I just wish they'd get the type of ship right sometimes :). Last night that guy says its a Merchant, then a capital ship, I sink it and then that guy tells me it was a passenger liner, it was Swedish, I saw the flag as it sank. Now I am a bad guy LOL

To my experience, Ship ID will only work if you are - or if you switch - to Manual TDC. If you are in Auto-TDC (like me) you must click the officer and enable Manual TDC first.

In order to be able to switch auto/manual, you must set it in the OFEV, in the XO TDC tab: switch Manual TDC (last entry) to False.

So, in my game with Auto-TDC, it works like this:

- Ship ID mod enabled in JSGME and changes done as above, also Manual TDC switched off in the game options;
- Lock target
- click officer, switch to Manual TDC; the displayed solution data changes, but no ship name yet;
- select 3rd officer from the left (Weapon Officer) in the crew icons;
- select 1st icon on the left;
- select 1st icon on the left.

That's it. The ship name will appear. But you STILL have to consult the ID Book to know about the ship's Depth Under Keel. All this is really complicated and un-intuitive, I whish I was in AOD...but if it was simpler, then the mod would be made so :)
Then: What the heck will abilitate the weapon guy to identify a ship? He is not on the bridge, but inside the sub and setting up the weapons for an attack, or no? :salute:

- After this: switch back to Auto-TDC with the officer.

I would suggest to add documentation to the mod, a mod without a readme is not a good mod IMO, it's just half the work done.
