holding my breath

so with the some information from rockin robbin, I'm going to reinstall my steam copy of sh4 1.3v into a file that will allow me to run that nifty little 1.4 update making my gaming experience with sh4 a whole lot better. I'm waiting on modding until I'm sure this works, I know I have to download something else to actually run mods, which I'm still having a problem remember the string of letters its called lol, and mind you this is all over a hotspot, wish me luck fellas.

Rockin Robbins 12-05-16 07:38 AM

Good luck! Standing by for reports.

Redwake 12-05-16 07:45 AM

so far its 3.2gb out of 3.6 so I'm nearly there, in your message you had said, When you're done installing you'll find that your desktop shortcut points to gu.exe. Change it to point to SH4.exe, what do you mean by that?

Redwake 12-05-16 07:56 AM

just tried to run the 1.4 patch and got the same message like last time about sh4 not being detected... should I try to re download the patch?

Redwake 12-05-16 08:25 AM

so I just realized that sh4 still downloaded into the protected directories anyway.... dug in and found how I can change my default download option and change it to c:\ games.....I feel dumb I have to re download it into the new folder.... whilst I seem to have the now two original downloads of sh4 to the steam file...will this affect me?

Redwake 12-05-16 10:51 AM

well, that ended in failure, upon re download tried to run 1.4 patch and message about not detecting sh4 popped up again....wits end :k_confused:

The download from Steam, are you sure that it's v1.3? It might be v1.4 - to check that, go to the folder you installed it in, and right-click on the SH4.exe file, choose Properties with a left-click, then left-click on Details. About the middle of that little window should be the version number. If it is indeed "v1,3,0,0" (yes, they use commas), then click on the General tab, and toward the bottom of the window is the Attributes section. Make sure the "Read only" tick box is empty, no check mark in it, so that the update can write to it.

Redwake 12-05-16 02:01 PM

double checked.. its 1.3 then check to make sure the read only box was unchecked (it is) tried re downloading the 1.4 patch one I get a message stating the signature is corrupt or invalid, I click run anyways and the same problem of the file telling me that sh4 dosnt exist.....really really really at wits end: :k_confused:k_confused:

Have you "licensed" the v1.3 with Ubisoft yet? Does it run OK, other than all the strangeness of the v1.3, of which there really isn't a lot to like of?...

Redwake 12-05-16 10:24 PM

I didint know I had to license it with ubisoft, and besides that yeah it runs fine at its current state, apart from game bugs and such.

propbeanie 12-06-16 08:38 AM

You've got the Steam version of "Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific", correct? Did you use Steam to manage your install to a different directory?

Redwake 12-06-16 06:55 PM

I tryed that, went into steam setting and manually created a new file path for the install, but some reason it didint work, and some how my Sh4 executable got lost so I cant even play sh4, so iv unistalled it and unistall ed steam going to try and reinstall steam in a non protected directory

propbeanie 12-06-16 08:24 PM

There is a tutorial on-site here about managing the Steam install...

Redwake 12-06-16 09:18 PM

I'll have to thump around here and find it

propbeanie 12-06-16 11:31 PM

Yeah, I thought I could find it real quick, and that is not the case. I'm stuck with the use of just this little tablet for now, and not a real computer, and I've manged to crash it several times. I'm almost 99% sure it's linked to off of either one of TheBerbster's pages, or Rockin Robbins...

Redwake 12-07-16 12:22 AM

i had found something about cutting the sh4 file and moving it to a new folder but besides that I haven't found anything.

Redwake 12-07-16 12:35 AM

well yet again the sh4 1.4 patch tells me sh4 dosnt exist on my computer.

Redwake 12-07-16 02:20 AM

well now steam wont even play sh4, states that the executable is missing, went to verify game files through steam and voila it wants me to download it again..... and well I don't got the data left of the hotspot to do that, so I guess my subbing days are over. ill update if and when I can possibly play sh4 again.

propbeanie 12-07-16 07:28 AM

You definitely don't wanna lose your quota for the month of December, what with all of that shoppin' you've still got to do!

If you moved the SH4.exe, put it back. Hopefully, it'll work after that. I don't remember if you can "validate" an install more than once?...

I finally found THEBERSTERS link: SH$<>Tutorials<>How to do it<>Info... It's much easier to do this on a ~real~ computer...

The first Steam mention is in the Steam Conversion SH4 Installation Instructions from 2015, where the whole folder is moved, and renamed without spaces. I do not know how reliable that method is.

The second is more recent http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...21&postcount=3 down in Post #3. I remember the posting, but I do not remember the title of the thread. I do know this method works, because I have a few Steam games, and this is how I've managed their installations. You log into the Steam site on your account, and do it from there.

Redwake 12-07-16 04:52 PM

Ugh, still gotta wait till my data resets. I think I'm just going to avoid trying to mod or patch the game due to this debacle. I'll just be happy to have a semi running game lol. Thank you for the help tho guys.
