Harbour Charts

I'm in the process of making a number of harbour charts based on the NavBuoy User Charts. Here are two examples:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/pict...pictureid=8672

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/pict...pictureid=8665

I'd like to scan the Sh5 files for info like water depths, land and sea objects, etc, because physically going to the locations and mapping everything is very time comsuming. Does anyone know what the proper files are that would give this info? And any other help would be greatly appreciated. :yep:

Nice!!! Looking forward to this.

Thanks!

Sober already created exactly the same mod. :yep:

Note that in game charts number is limited to 50...Sjizzle can tell you more about Sobers charts and charts in general...

[REL] SH5 Map viewer/gradient editor

This app lets you adjust the colour of the map gradients. This could reduce the number of depth readings that you would need to add:hmmm:

Detailed depth maps are found in the following path: data\Terrain\Maps
For viewing buoys, etc. on map, you need to run Mission Editor, open a campaign project, and select the appropriate mis layer. IIRC buoys are on a separate layer, identical for all the campaigns, but Trevally can give you more details on this topic. :salute:

oooh lighthouses :D

:sign_yeah:

data\Campaigns\CampaignProjects\Total_Germany\harb our.mis
open with notepad or text editor

each bouy has a location in this format:-

[Unit 693]
Name=_Buoy_G2_FL#1305
"
"
Long=-674703.000000
Lat=6941362.000000

This lat long are in meters. I cant remember if there is a way to convert:hmm2:

I've left Sober and The Dark Wraith a PM but haven't heard back. Is it the old one with two colours? And the number of charts is a problem. I've had to delete a few of the ones I don't use and made a print out of all for reference. Also you may only install the ones you'll be using.

I think the Mission Editor can be used to convert, it has coordinates of both at the bottom. There is an App that converts LatLong to MetersfromgameOrigin in SH5 but not the other way.

Okay that's great advice I'll get on it. :yeah:

That helps a lot. :sunny: But the detailed maps don't seem to get close without losing resolution. I'll need to investigate further.

Just an update.

I've done 23 charts so far, not as detailed as I'd like but info is sometimes impossible or just hard to come by. Also too much info is not always good.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/pict...pictureid=8722

I got hung up on Stavanger when I noticed the buoys were pointing to a dead end and thought it might be nice to change that. But it's proving to be a little more complicated working with the editor.

Also was hoping to add lighthouses to certain areas but I don't have the skill for that, the existing ones I believe are about 83 meters and can be used for DR in navigation or even distance determination with this formula:

Anway, more work to go. :salute:

True , but these look way better than my ones .

DieReeperbahn 03-21-16 08:03 PM

:shucks: Just working on the British Isles at the moment. Will probably package the files according to region so folks using other charts won't lose any past the 50 limit.

THE_MASK 03-21-16 11:37 PM

I believe the limitation is 50 dds files altogether in the game .
Seems to me that a lot of dds pictures could be made into one dds file .

THE_MASK 04-03-16 07:58 PM

any news ?

DieReeperbahn 04-04-16 09:31 AM

These are the charts I've done so far:
Baltic >-----------------------------------

Kattegat
Kiel
Langelandsbaelt
Memel
Oresund

British >----------------------------------

Cardiff
Dundee
Edinburgh, Rosyth, & Methil
Falmouth
Glasgow
Grimsby
Harwich
Invergordon
Kilbrannan Sound
Milford
Loch Ewe
Scapa Flow
Shetland
Southampton & Portsmouth
Stornoway

Mediterranean >----------------------------

La Spezia
Piraeus
Toulon

Monsun >-----------------------------------

Addu Attol
Penang
Singapur

NW Europe >--------------------------------

Brest
Heligoland
La Pallice
Lorient
St Nazaire
Ushant
Wadden Sea
Willhelmshaven

Scandinavia >-------------------------------

Bergen Middle
Bergen NW
Bergen South
Narvik
Stavanger
Trondheim

Southern Atlantic >-------------------------

Western Atlantic >--------------------------

Just starting on the Americas and will add to Monsun & Med later. I've grouped them into regions in the .cfg files so you only have to enable the region you'll be patrolling in. British Isles are so far the largest; might divide that up.
I have also changed the harbour.mis files in various Campaigns but will have to get Sober and Vecko to test that with their MegaMods.

Just an update; finished British Isles, West and South Atlantic charts. Very little time as I'm busy with real life but still motoring on. :yep:
