DW and Windows 10? (SOLVED)

Anyone successfull running Dangerous Waters on Windows 10?

I tried using the patch (dll file) for windows 8 and it seemed ok at first, but after installing patch 104, although the game does not crash it only shows the mouse cursor with all black behind it.
I can hear the sounds of the intro and menu clickings but it's all black!

I've been meaning to install the test version on a separate hard drive to check but I just haven't had the time. Does the test version even work anymore now that 10 is actually out? I might be able to get at it this weekend.

The test version of windows 10 should still work, although I think it will bug you like hell to update.
Anyway, my report is related to the RTM build (10240).

On a side note, DW works well on this same hardware with Win8.1 and the patch dll.

Has anyone tried running in a window? Does Windows 10 support 16-bit color?

nope, same as 8.1 - what isn't courious, cause the own technique from dw using the buffer is a very incompatible thing for modern systems.

Glad to see I'm not the only one.

DW worked fine on Windows 8.1, I also have the same issue, black screen, mouse pointer and music but no graphics.

I get the same thing with Medieval II Total War.

So I think Windows 10 fubared a few things for legacy games.

I updater the wrapper (v 0.02) to fix the W10 incompatibility. At least on the one W10 I have available.

XabbaRus 08-04-15 04:32 AM

Edited, for being a dumb schmuck

Finally it works for Win10. Thanks for the efforts, but when I try to change the screen resolution in game, it crashed. Is it by design? Does anybody have the same problem?

It also happened on windows 8. Nothing new there!
Just edit the dangerouswaters.ini.

Will this work for SC (steam version), too?

I am currently experiencing a horrible screen blink.
