Wings over Illawarra

http://www.wingsoverillawarra.com.au/

3 days till I head down south to check out this event. Looking forward to seeing some old favourites plus some aircraft I've not seen in the air before. Should be a good day's entertainment.

The list of aircraft on display this year looks pretty good for a one day event:

Very keen to see the Catalina flying as I've only ever seen them on the ground or in a museum previously.

Of course I'll be posting some pics once I get back and have time to sort through them.

Not a tardy line-up at all and yes, the Catalina looks the pick of the flyers but a static Canberra is always something to behold.

Don't forget the pictures ya mongrel.

The camera will be busy I suspect. http://www.ausphotography.net.au/for...otographer.gif

Take a look at the flying display list at 14:30. A CAC27 Sabre will be there doing a flypast.

Very nice line up of aircraft to see and enjoy. Hope the weather holds for you. Have a great time!

Forecast looks good so far if a little cool. Partly cloudy and 15C. :sunny:

I went there last year. The Catalina is great :)

EDIT: I also saw the Boomerang in TarJak's sig there :D

Very nice. This is the one that'll be doing the flying on Sunday twin 30mm ADEN cannons in the nose and the Avon engine:

Nice little bird.
Tarjak you better charge up your batteries and take extra film just in case.:)

TarJak 05-02-14 03:22 AM

Not taking my analogue camera so no film required. Have several memory cards and two spare batteries though.

No vibration and auto focus then :)

You should be set, then. Take lots, the more you take and post the happier we are.:sunny:

Wings on the ground in Illawarra...

What a disappointing day.:/\\!! Wind was a steady 25kt with gusts up to 35kt so there was no flying today other than the arrival and late afternoon departure of the FA-18's:nope::down:

Still I spent a few hours checking out the aircraft and other displays they had around the airport. There was an Me-108 which I'd never seen in the flesh before:

Many more pics to come once I get time to get them uploaded to a hosting site.

I try to factor in potential weather factors before a visit and try to focus on those venues that have a decent static display as a back up position.

Doesn't always work mind.

I'd bought my ticket when a few days ago when the weather report was still quite good. A low pressure system developed off the coast yesterday and caused the wind. Ah well looking at the static stuff was fun if not as much fun as the flying stuff.

Especially looking forward to seeing the Catalina, Canberra, Vampire and Sabre
