Woman suicide bomber kills at least 14 at Russian station

Quote:

(Reuters) - A female suicide bomber blew herself up in the entrance hall of a Russian train station on Sunday, killing at least 14 people in the second deadly attack within three days as the country prepares to host the Winter Olympics.

The bomber detonated her explosives in front of a metal detector just inside the main entrance of Volgograd station. Footage shown on TV showed a massive orange fireball filling the stately colonnaded hall and smoke billowing out through shattered windows.
Escalating spiral of violence, these suicide bombings, a worrying development in the community :shifty:

This is just terrible. A few days ago, these 14 people most likely spend Christmas with their loved ones, now they are blown to bits, 14 families destroyed...

Friggin sick planet. :nope:

This is the second suicide attack in Volgograd. Last time it was a bus.

Stealhead 12-29-13 02:14 PM

That problem is much older than the article implies.

Nearest city area to Dagestan and Chechnya IIRC, so whilst unfortunate, not particularly surprising.

Well there is one but I doubt it is acceptable. Would require a couple of loose nukes and the wind in the right direction.

Or we could send Skybird. But seriously where do these people get off. I just don't comprehend.

Shock and awe is a tactic that gets the required media coverage, political dialogue doesn't have the same ring to it does it. God knows what the Russian government will do to the instigators of these crimes, me thinks they won't be giving them tea and biscuits.

Jimbuna 12-30-13 05:48 AM

The eyes of the world on currently on Russia because of the forthcoming winter olympics amongst other things and the bombers are making as much use of that as possible.

Sadly, I can only see matters escalating further.

It is.

We know too well about those railway station terrorist attacks, about those who plan and foment them, and those who carry out such actions. Terrorism acts very well known in Italy, inter alia.

They could also be sent on a nice long visit to Chernobyl.

Sad that the city-hero of Stalingrad (Volgograd) to do such things. We have not forgiven it fascists and terrorists do not forgive.

Volgograd is the old name Stalingrad. I'm sorry if spelled wrong, i studied English only in the army.

I see Kranz got a yellowish card thingie as a warning for that post. Not only do I not see any kind of disrespectful, insulting, vulgar and impertinent behaviour in that post from kranz towards Tribesman...

But I also can't see why Tribesman got that bloody yellow card himself, while he didn't say anything outrageous. We didn't even speak about any Goldblooms of whatever, after all ! Is that enough to get a warning in here ? If so, the administration in here gets its ultra-zionist license fingers in the nose.

Not only that !
But I am your official Mr Godwin in here. And I feel upset and offended for being the only one who didn't get a warning this time. So I'm requesting 2 warnings as a late Christmas present, please ! :haha:

Volgograd blasts: IOC 'confident' Games will be safe

Quote:

The International Olympic Committee president says he has confidence that Russian authorities will deliver a "safe and secure" Games in Sochi.

Thomas Bach wrote to President Vladimir Putin to express condolences for the "despicable" attacks that struck Volgograd within 24 hours.

Investigators say the attacks on a railway station and trolleybus, which killed at least 31 people, were linked.

They struck just over a month before the Winter Olympics begin.

I was referring to the Caucasus region more specifically different groups of these land have never been fully loyal to Russian/Soviet/Russian authority.

Also the previous scorched earth campaigns carried out but Russia served only to spread the fire not stamp it out.Of course as I said this fire has been burning for a very long time and the scorched earth method has thus far failed. Now it is a very nasty situation leaving many people stuck in the middle.
