When did music videos get so hilarious?
 

So, yeah, I'm old and I don't get new music. I'll proudly don the mantle of "new music is crap", just like the generations before me (but seriously, could it be true this time?).

We've all heard about the Hannah Montanah kid going stripper-bonkers at the VMAs (Disney stars turning wacko, they must have a management plan or something), old news, and not really that shocking.

But then comes a video, this chick is licking a sledgehammer, swinging nekkid on a wrecking ball. Haw haw! Was it supposed to be this funny? Or do they really think there's even a glimmer of sex appeal in this LMAO video?

Seriously, is there anyone here who can explain this to me? :doh:

Yeah, that link above mentions the Sinead O'Connor video, that was a pretty solid song and performance. But Miley Cyrus? So funny!:har:

The explanation is that there are so many videos and so many average singers out there that the one who wins is the one who is the most outrageoud.

Seriously? Average song at best, electronic drum machine, synthesized everything, including running her voice through some kind of processor. Test of time, brother, test of time. Is anyone going to remember this thirty years from now, let alone look back and say "Now that was great music!"?

All part of a grander marketing plan that started at the awards show. It goes back to "as long as people are talking".

Yep, it scares me that most the music I like is considered classic, but with music I prefer vocal talent, not t&a...

Two years ago I took my son and school friends to a Swift concert, I swear she sounded lie a dying dog, but the kids loved her.

As I've said, great music went out with big hair.

Funny thing about all this; my argument would be that the popular music barometer has read -10 since the first troubadour squawked out the first drinking tune in the tavern. It is all a relative thing. I could easily launch into scathing diatribes about Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, Chubby Checker, Bill Hailey and the Comets, Muddy Waters or whatever your vernacular performer(s) of choice are. Would it lessen your love of them? Probably not. Would it frustrate me to no end that the people I am lecturing will not appreciate art as I see fit? Absolutely. And so I have found it best for everybody, including myself, if I just let people like what they want to like and I save my diatribe for the lecture hall.

If the younger generation are buying it then the management plan is working....but yes I agree, it looks and sounds crap, at best.

After all, we forget about all the awful music from years ago.

Yup, this new music is crap is nonsense. The most popular stuff - a good chunk of it at least - is crap but there are loads of good bands and musicians too. Plus as the cliché goes, "one man's trash is another man's treasure".

This trope is tiresome. :zzz:

If Miley continues on this path she will never be taken seriously. If you have no real talent use the shock factor. Won't be long before there is a full spread in Playboy.

She's not exactly in control though. Perhaps this is in reaction to being managed, styled and controlled to within an inch of her life for decades.

It's the same story of child stardom. Sad and repetitive.

What is repetitive is the child stars are often faced with a failing career. Since her Hannah Montana roll Miley has not amounted to much. These child starts rarely go much farther then their rolls when children. The only thing in their bag of tricks is doing outrageous things whenever possible. Take a look at Amanda Bynes. The list goes on.

I'm pretty sure in a few years, there will be so many implants in her, she would have to be legally classified as a cyborg. :haha:

Miley is only following in the footsteps of other female recording artists who found their careers waning and pulled out the shock and awe campaigns. Madonna, Cher, etc, etc. Disney made enough off of Miley to buy the Star Wars franchise so it's only natural that her current management will do anything to keep the cash cow milk flowing. She's going along with it. What's that say about her? Mediocrity bound I'd say. If she shows up in a centerfold for Playboy, I might buy a copy just to burn the glossy off a horse toothed brat.

I can honestly say that the only music I ever listened to that made my ears bleed was from Mrs John Lennon. Oh well, at least Paul was smart enough to give Linda a dead microphone to screech into and Yoko' demonic overtures never made it onto the airwaves.:up:
