Full Pink Moon Tonight.

Not that it's pink, but may actually have a pink hue due to the eclipse.

Aaaah, that explains why it was a slightly reddish hue earlier. Was quite large too, a real harvest moon (well...technically it's not a harvest moon because it doesn't take place near the autumnal equinox...but it was as big as one thanks to the moon illusion). Very pretty.

You'll also be able to see Saturn, upper left of the moon. Should appear yellowish.

Will have to get the binoculars out, my long range eyesight is pretty terrible.

But no matter how big it seems, you can still cover it with your little finger held at arm's length. :sunny:

We've got the telescope set up, more for Saturn, but the rings probably won't show good until the 28th.

Steve, we're talking about the moon here, so please don't jack the thread over your....issues.

frau kaleun 04-25-13 07:47 PM

Oh... well then. Never mind. Apparently it's just some kind of astronomical event.

From the thread title I thought maybe Reece got loose and was out wandering the neighborhood sans pants again. :O:

You have no idea how much willpower it took for me not to respond to the topic title when I first saw it; thanks, Frau for taking the pressure (and possible flak)... :haha:

For some reason I'm reminded of one of my favorite Heywood Banks songs...

Press your buttocks against the window
And I'll know you are home
Oh, the view from the sidewalk
Is a vision all its own
There's no need to turn out the light
Just press your buns against the window
And it turns the day to night...

He's a fairly regular guest on the Bob & Tom radio show - I listen almost every morning at work and on the drive into the office.

In this area he's most famous for the Big Butter Jesus song, which he wrote about a local religious landmark... a giant statue of Jesus put up by a church up north of here. It was also commonly known as "Touchdown Jesus" because of the way the figure was posed. Oddly enough it burned down after being struck by lightning a few years ago. :O:

I thought the moon (the satellite of the earth, not steve arse) was always red/pink/orange when it is low in the sky due to the fact it has to pass through more atmosphere, which removed a lot of energy from the light.

I imagine it has a name, but kind of like a red-shift without having anything to do with relative motion and the Doppler effect.

It never ceases to amaze me how threads evolve..
