DCS Maybe?
So I been thinkin' lately... :hmm2:
I popped on over to the DCS Website to look at the sysreqs of DCS World since it is free... I've got a bad GPU, but some RAM....and if needed...some RAM Upgrade slots. Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4500 @ 2.30GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.3GHz Memory: 4096MB RAM Available OS Memory: 4028MB RAM Card name: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family Display Memory: 1695 MB Dedicated Memory: 64 MB Shared Memory: 1631 MB Native Mode: 1366 x 768 IL-2 1946's reqs are less demanding...but I'm wondering if what I have above isn't good enough could I just get some RAM and upgrade a bit? |
I doubt you can get any decent FPS off of DCS with that GPU, the minimum is
listed as 512MB, yours is 64MB IIRC. And no, more RAM wouldn't help. |

...and I can run the first ArmA on lower detail. |
DCS is a wee bit demanding really.

DCS will be the first game I get. |

A game would forgive your errors, respawn you and a few seconds later you'd be on your way. |

Yeah, the short answer for now is "don't bother". Especially since it's a massive download and would take you forever, and not even run at all.
DCS is very demanding, several times more so than IL-2. I wouldn't trust the minimum or even the recommended requirements on that thing. |
Thanks once again guys for telling me what I expected. :03:
My laptop is a POS when it comes to gaming. :shifty: I will play DCS one of these days and when I do it'll be glorious. |
Maybe get a smaller car and a bigger PC. :hmmm:
You don't need a 'Stang. You want, you would like, but you don't need. |

I love IL-2 1946....I love 2005 or 1970 'Stangs. What i'd really like is to save $2500 and buy the FN FS2000 I saw at the sporting goods store the other day. That was one of the coolest things I've ever held. :03: |
Since you play IL-2 "only", one reminder of what it means to jump from that to DCS.
IL-2 is a game, and you are done after reading 5 minutes at best, not counting to set up your keyboard commands. DCS, every title of theirs, apparently, means in-depth study sims - and you need to treat them like that if you want to get the best out of them. That means: you will need to spend hours with reading. http://i.imgur.com/btcMo50.jpg |
I have folders like that for DCS. Maybe not quite as thick though. The folders, not me. :D
The wife hates that they take up so much room. |

Maybe it'd help if I read them once in a while. :hmmm:
I haven't played A-10C since some patch a while ago (before P-51), and I haven't played DCS full stop since just after I got P-51 (and some fantastic skins). That is too long ago. |
I'm a bit more technologically advanced:
http://www.booknook.biz/images/uploads/Kindle_e-ink.jpg Which reminds me, I need to put the Shark start-up and wep systems checklist on to the kindle. :yep: |
Oberon,
would you mind to set up some pics of the display with manual pages displayed from DCS or other sims, some Din A4 pdf, and such? I would like to see that first-hand myself. I am considering a solid ebook reader myself since quite some time, for the mere purpose of displaying PDFs on it (no e-book buys planned, I prefer to actually own what I pay for), but I have skipped the idea time and again due to the small displays, or in case of tablets, the prices. (I also hate that batteries still cannot be exchanged once their lifetime has run out, so that I need to buy a new device). |

The kindle is actually my mothers, although it's in my name on Amazon, and for me it was handy to get for the book 'Chieftains' by Bob Forrest-Webb which, in used paperback form, you're lucky to get for less than 20 quid but on the kindle is just over three. |
Thanks. Zooming and then panning around a PDF site, that is what keeps me away. And what I did not know is that you need to feed a Kindle via your emailbox - another argument against it (at least when wanting a reader for my purposes). I do not regret to not have payed money for something so far. It's just that I am willing to do if the price is right and the item meets my demands.

I had heard that DCS was nothing to sneeze at but what are those? Three inch binders? :o
