Can't install Silent Hunter 3 on Windows 7
Whenever I try to install Silent Hunter 3 on my computer that has Windows 7 32bit, it goes through its normal "Preparing to install" deal and then the installshield says "1608: Unable to create InstallDriver instance, Return code: -2147024894.
Does anybody know how to get past this? |
Are you attempting the install under an account that has admin rights?
|
Has it already been installed on there before? If so make sure you delete all references to it, inc. anything in Documents, and run a registry cleaner - I recommend ccleaner but other free ones are available.
Follow Steibler's post - http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...5&postcount=50 Here is Neal's link he refers to - http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=160118 for getting rid of StarForce. |
Windows error 1608 is caused by system file errors that will need to be addressed before you can install silent hunter 3 :timeout:

Yes, as far as I can tell I do have admin rights.
This will be the first time I have installed the game on this computer. |
I have looked around on this website and others to help fix this problem, with no success. My major problem is that I still cannot get past that error that it gives me.
|
How many User Accounts do you have on your machine? :hmmm:
If you have Admin rights, install it outside of Program Files and follow the Windows 7 Installation Thread. Welcome to Subsim and Happy Hunting (Eventually... :O: ) |

I have just the one account. But like I sead, it wont let me get to the part to install the game. That is the part that is bugging me. |
Might try running the installer as administrator, and try compatibility modes; I'd try XP or '98. Also make sure you're not installing to program files.

I have tryed running it as administrator and using the compatibility modes, but those don't work eather. I remember reading about not installing it in program files folder, I'll keep that in mind when or if I can get to the install options. |

Herr Kaleun, I declare you ready for patrol! |
So returning to the game after more than a year away,
Since I last played my PC has been upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 carrying my old silent hunter III GWX 3 patched to 1.4b with it So of course starforce was now a problem, rather than faffing with removing the whole thing I first tried 1) running the starforce removal tool and 2) After finding it using rld-sh14.rar and overwiting the files in programme files/ubisoft/shiii game then ran fine :yeah: So then I look around and find the 1.6b unofficial patch, downloaded and tried to install, no joy :wah: :hmmm: looked in the batch file, guessed that the nosf version was the one I wanted and after a bit of playing around (mostly getting rid of the error checks and zeroing in on the version I wanted) tricked it into working Now running 1.6b, oh yeah baby :yeah: Now it's time to do some serious :arrgh!: |
What 1.6b patch?
Oh, nevermind. It's HSIE's fix: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=174225 |
I am glad you got it working -- But look up the list of threads and you will see a very good one which I made a comment on after I followed his "How To Do THis with Win 7" -- and it worked.
Look it over and see if you made you way through in a similar way. Most important was to not install "Game Shadow", and some other stuff as well. If you missed some of those steps you may be in for a "bummer" latter on, so the wise move may be to do it over correctly. Just MHO.:subsim: |
