Details sketchy, but initial info seems to indicate Chris Kyle was with two veterans at a shooting range when one of the men, a former marine turned his gun on Chris and another individual killing them both before fleeing.

Apparently all three men knew each other and the gunman fled in a truck owned by one of the victims.Sounds to me like the gunman had (or perceived) some sort of dispute with one of the men that he killed it also sounds pretty planned a gun range is a perfect place to get the jump on someone strange as that mat seem who would expect a person perceived to be a friend as a deadly threat typically speaking you go to a gun range with people that you know well.

I am not sure about the whole PTSD thing I think that is just the media doing their thing.

It was not some professional hit if you think that you watch too many movies and TV shows.

To be honest I had never heard of Kyle before still it is lousy when anyone gets murdered when they survived so much already.

I think it's lousy when anyone gets murdered, period.

Tragic...but at least they have the killer in custody.

Not exactly a random shooting when the victims and killer knew each other, just saying.

So pupils that do shootings at their own schools and workers who go postal in their workplace are not random shootings either?

Well to call a shooting "random" really depends on citcumstances of the shooting. If the killer(s) target a person who they know or know well then its not ramdom because the person who was killed, was killed for a specific reason. Such things have happened in school shootings and when workers have gone "postal" because the victim or victims is someone who is hated by killer or the person(s) had done something to the killer in their past which warrented revenge or someother course of action in the mind of the killer.
For a shooting to be considered random the killer and the victim normally do not know each other or if they do know each other then they don't know each other very well. A good example of a random shooting was last night in the local news a cyclist was shot for what appers to be no reason so until the evidence shows otherwise it will probably be considered a random shooting by the police who are investigating.

Edit: I just did a quick bit of reasearch on the first person who went "postal", which was Patrick Sherrill a USPS worker who worked at a post office in Edmond, Oklahoma. The proposed movites for his actions where " On the afternoon of Aug. 19, 1986, Sherrill was reprimanded by two supervisors in a glassed-in office over personal matters unrelated to the profession. This coupled with the fact that he thought he was he was going to be fired could be possible motives." The two supervisors who reprimanded Sherrill where killed becuase they where talking about personal and private matters relating to Sherrill and the fact that Sherrill thought he was going to be fired. I think August was saying, this was not a random shooting. Although, I think it's splitting hairs.

Maybe it is splitting hairs Neal but the murders can and do happen anywhere people congregate.

When was the last time a nut bent on killing as many random people as he could tried it in a location where guns are plentiful? They deliberately pick locations where people are likely to be unarmed, such as gun free zones so hence my comment.
