Windows 8 compatible

Hey, I just got a laptop that came with windows 8 and I was thinking of getting Silent Hunter 5 and I think I have the required specs but I wasn't sure if I would be able to run it on the OS. I'm not entirely sure if I'm asking this in the right place or if it has already been answered somewhere but and help would be much appreciated.
:salute:

Windows 8

Yes....I just installed SH5 this morning on my Windows 8 laptop with no problems noted. SH3 and SH4 also installed and run perfectly under the Windows 8 OS...at least on my PC.

I've read of people sucessfully installing SH3, 4, and 5 in Win8. I'd guess the same rules for Win7 would apply - install outside of default program files.

Let us know how you get on, and welcome aboard :salute:

Edit - amazing, nobody answers all day then two at once.

Thanks guys, much appreciated!

I've a secondary system (two weeks old) and yes, the same as W7 :yep:

I also had a look on steam and it lists the supported video cards at the time of release:
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT / 9 / GTX 200 series
ATI Radeon HD 2600 / HD 3000 / HD 4000 / HD 5000 series
NVIDIA SLI & ATI Crossfire

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 610M and I wasn't sure if that would cause any issues?

Should work fine but if not post here.

Sorry to steal the thread but, how do you all get SH3 working on Win7 I have tried everything it always crashes at different points depending on what I have tried, closest I got was crashing whilst loading a mission :/

My Specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE @ 3.21GHz
8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
AMD Radeon HD 5770 1GB
Win7 x64

Install in a different drive to C if at all possible

DJRenegade 12-28-12 06:55 PM

I was doing that, I install all my games on a different drive - oh and its steam bought :/\\!!

Jimbuna 12-28-12 06:57 PM

Then look for a Steam folder in C drive

DJRenegade 12-28-12 07:12 PM

nope no steam folder in my C:\ drive. Its all on my E:\ with the rest of my games :( would love to get SH3 working again!

Thanks again but I just found out about the DRM that means you need a constant internet connection to play and I also heard that the servers are almost always down and if that is the case then I don't want to be wasting my money. Is this true?

Not exactly...you need only go online once to register.

Yup, just one time (short and sweet), and then play offline to your heart's content. :yep:

P.S. If it was still DRM anchored, I wouldn't touch it.
