Woman posts disrespectful photo of herself at Arlington
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nati...icle-1.1205609
What she did was pretty disrespectful and stupid.I am not sure that she should loose her job because of it though she does work with special needs people her actions do show a lack of compassion. |
I'm sure it was done without malice but all the same...there is a time and place for joking. Sometimes there is no time or place for joking. This was one of them.

Interesting that even her own parents had warned her about posting certain types of photos on the web.Sounds to me like she is either a bit stupid or a bit of a narcissist and has no respect for others.Either is not an excuse.
Rather than fire her I would have her put in some volunteer hours with veterans groups. |
I think the big thing to take away from this is something I bring up to my students from time to time when dispensing advice. If you post something on Facebook or Twitter, you must assume that everyone will read it. This includes not only family and friends but also employers and prospective employers. As such anything with images of yourself doing stupid things is very likely to be seen by them. While you may not care about your public image, your employer certainly care about their's, and does not seek to affiliate itself with people who post such material, as it reflects poorly upon the company/organization/school district/etc.
In short, keep your racy photos and pictures of yourself doing keg stands off your accounts. It will invariably come back to bite you. |
Well I'd certainly be questioning her mentality level and suitability for working with people who have special needs.
|
Perhaps we should send her to Afghanistan.

Afghanistan=Taliban blowing up power stations. Taliban blowing up power stations=No Internet. No Internet=No dumbass photos being posted on the Internet :yeah: Anyway, Afghanistan and America both have crazy people carrying guns everywhere. |

Takeda Shingen
Sounds like you must teach Information Security at the university level. Why? Because I know someone else who does and that person says exactly what you say about Facebook and so forth. I was going to post an opinion about this subject but then I thought: "No need. Takeda Shingen said it all - and much more."

When one is stupid enuff to post everything they do on the 'Net in anyway?
They deserve the fall out. It's not like this FaceBook and InterNet thing is something new and she was just a dumb teenager. Adding the fact she was told it was a bad idea by others? I question her ability to do the job she was doing! I'd fire her in a heartbeat if she worked for me. |

Acting as she did in public is distasteful.
Getting photographed doing so is distasteful and dumb. Posting the photo on Facebook is distasteful+dumb+stupid^2. Just started as a literacy volunteer for special needs adults and one of the first caveats was don't embarrass yourself in a venue where your clients might learn of your actions. She deserves to lose her job. Everybody screws up sometimes but there is no fixing stupid and she demonstrated colossal stupidity. |
Actually this woman is 30 years old and should know better.
I have a good friend that is an intel officer for the USAF he does not have a Facebook or any other social media accounts in his mind they are a security liability for the military and I tend to agree. I have friends that I met in the service that have Facebook and they post some surprising things on Facebook. One person a Sargent First Class infantryman in the Army posted pictures of his unit in Afghanistan in many of the photos an enemy could find useful details.I noticed in some pictures there where some SOF operators whose faces where blurred (those are the smart guys). But as to the rest you could see who they where and their names. For some people they are liability in other ways people have had their homes broken into because they posted that they where not at home on Facebook and one of their "friends" decided to visit and take the persons property. a fun little test would be to post about buying some new expensive item then post that you will be out for several hours then you turn off your lights and wait in the shadows with a shotgun to see what "friend" shows up.That would be interesting for the many Facebook obsessed people that post WTMI and are friends with people they do not really know. |
