Gaijin also made IL2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey and an updated version Birds of Steel.

These games are a must!

Wannabe? WANNABE!?

Look up the trailer for it!

Play Birds of Steel!

If the people who made IL2 Strurmovik feel that Gaijin is a good enough game developer to carry on the IL 2 franchise, they must be a very good brand!

They even make 3 different game modes for their flight sims:

ARCADE: The sort of thing hardcore flight sim fans sneer at.

REALISTIC: The sort of thing hardcore flight sim fans look disdainfully at.

SIMULATOR: It's easy... if you have an actual flying license!

Looks awesome, i think i will want to play this:woot:

This looks amazing, I have been playing games by Gaijin, in particular the Il-2 series for years, hence, look forwards to it greatly. Its amazing they will have ships, I really hope that one day they add Submarines as well as using a Jyunsen B sub with those graphics and in such a massive game would be like a dream coming true. @ Cybermat, I thought the same thing, but as I found out more about the game, the Western, and Eastern European Fronts are featured in addition to the Pacific Theatre of the war, so a Bf-109 makes sense.

I was inpatient and bought the 'Typhoon Pack'. This is really an awesome game, flight controls feel really sweet, the cockpits look fantastic. The sunlight on the propellors blinding your sight from certain angles that kind of realistic stuff.

Ground targets blow up in your face when you get too low and the whole battlefield immersion is there, moving vehicles and AAA vehicles pounding the sh^& out of you, this will be a nice game to play during this winter.

Arcade mode is a little different, all kinds of aircraft battling it out, sometimes same type of aircraft will engage eachother but it's real fun, you never know what kind of scenario you find yourself in. I even did some kind of Pearl Harbour attack scenario with me in the Typhoon.

Only slight downside is that everything costs money, or huge amounts of xp points.

But it doesn't look like those pics above:O:

Gaijin did not make IL-2 Sturmovik. In about 2008, they received a license from 1C/Maddox Games to develop the Birds of Prey/Wings of Prey, the console-friendly flight game adaptations using some of the IL-2 technology and name. They've done a good job of that, making a fast, good-looking, scalable engine. I would not regard WoP as a true flight sim, being substantially stripped down in that regard even from IL-2, but it's very servicable for something that's accessible and large-scale. It's a total non-surprise that it works for MMO games in general.

But Gaijin have nothing to do with IL-2 itself and although Gaijin are also located in Russia, afaik no Gaijin employees ever worked on the IL-2 series proper. It is no more (and arguably less) connected to IL-2 than Rise of Flight or Theater of War (both of which share some of the technology and staff with original IL-2 development).

Hahah ah yes, you are right, I just looked at its box.. I feel so daft for getting it confused :/\\!!. Thanks for the clarification.

I tried War Thunder, as a fan of IL-2 1946, Cliffs of Dover and hard-core flight sims like DCS A-10C and Black Shark, I can't honestly say I was that impressed.

I know that it is still being worked on but I feel that they are being a bit over-eager about saying that the "simulation" mode will be even mildly accurate.

Don't get me wrong, it is a fun game, I just think the sheer scope of the title will not allow anything close to the accuracy that many of the fans seem to think will be present.

Plus, I don't like the idea of a f2p flight sim with stats and a unlock system, it makes it feel like a xbox game to me.

Oh, I've played simulation mode on Birds of Steel multiplayer on Xbox 360.
Here's a transcript of the voice communication:
CYBERMAT47: Oh my God, I just killed an AI!
OTHER PLAYERS: Holy $&@€, dude, you must have developed this game! We're only 43 minutes in and you've already got a kill! And you've only gone into a spin and blacked out 53 times!

Difficulty (or good gameplay as the case may be) doesn't necessarily mean realism :O: Besides, 43 minutes isn't much compared to the learning curve of weeks that a lot of complex sims have, and that's just for learning systems.

That said, I can't imagine an MMO that's full-blown in terms of complexity, so this is probably a great engine and a great approach for creating a reasonably popular, populated game with lots of people to play against.
