[TEC] How to use TDWs Patcher

*****This post is being updated due to TDW making his patcher remember stuff - so no need to throw it out each time. I will update the how to soon. Remember and check out Volodya Rus version that is up to date with the new patcher*****

UPDATE 17/07/2013
Please see here for Sjizzle guide for the new patcher http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=205620

First off - stop here if you are playing SH5 through steam - the patcher will not work with the steam version of SH5.exe

Edit: before starting, see post 2 about backup files

Ensure you are using v1.2 of SH5 (check by looking at the top right in the main menu)

Step1 - get the patcher
Download the newest version from here:-
LINK

Save it to your desktop
Extract with 7zip (or other) to desktop
http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/4689/26117297.jpg

Step2 - make a mod:up:
open the folder that was created by unzipping the download
http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/3908/96230800.jpg

copy these files from C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5
***these MUST be stock files (21/04/2010)****
SH5.exe
SHSim.act
SHCollisions.act
Paste them into your folder
http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/2586/89606082.jpg

Step3 - add to jsgme
Take the folder you have just made and place it into your MODS folder:-
C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS
Run jsgme
right click on the patcher folder and select "Explore"
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/4498/22865506.jpg

Step4 - use the patcher
double click on "GenericPacter" to open it
select file - open
Point it to - C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS\TDWpatchv1.067
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/4260/84777510.jpg

select "TDW_SH5_Patches.s5p" and open
point it to the folder
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/9239/58305373.jpg
say ok to all the warnings:D

right click and enable all the patches you want to use
http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/214/27830858.jpg

Do the same with "TDW_SHCollisions_Patch.s5p" and "TDW_SHSim_Patch.s5p"
http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/5227/27351157.jpg

Step5 - install
use jsgme as normall
http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/658/27962607.jpg

When a new verion comes along (as they are sure to do) - just unistall and delete the folder and make a new one following the steps above.

Thats all folks:yeah:

Or not quite all - please also see this vid from 9thinfSword:up:

Edit: - Still not all - Please see the "How to: Patcher" by Volodya61

It would be good practice to keep a copy of these files in a safe place before editing them.
All from the stock game.

SHSim.act
SHCollisions.act
sh5.exe

See here for SHSim.act & SHCollisions.act (unedited) by Magic - DOWNLOAD
(the name for the download ist the german word "Dateien", it means in english = files)

Thanks Magic:up:

I think the render patches stop some of the weather effects that may cause some issues with stuttering in the game (water splash on scope lens etc)

Also - can I add a link to your download for fresh SHSim.act & SHCollisions.act files:06::)

Okay, change 2 & 3 I understand, but what exactly is "Remove Post effects rendering"? :hmmm:

See here by TDW

Interesting :hmmm: Will have to read over and see if it applies

On another note I found the main rendering loop in the exe file. I'm making a 'Render' patch that will allow you to:
- remove posteffects
- remove water droplets effects
- remove water leaks effects

These would mainly be used for troubleshooting but Sober may have an interest in the water droplets one. Maybe it will cure his smoke problem :06: If it does it will be some good feedback so I can poke around more in PostEffects act file and maybe see why.
And the post here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...&postcount=689

Quick question -

Tracking the patcher will not work through the Steam version. I usually download my games from Gamefly. Will the patcher fail with any DL version of SH IV, or strictly with the Steam and Steam only?

Some affermations

I started having weird things happening after downloading last few mods; and it took a couple of days for me to remember things I had read in "modding for beginners" area. So, after reading everthing again this day, I saw a couple of patches that might take care of the "weirding". So, I downloaded Depth Keeping and TDW_Genericpatcher_v_1_0_74_0.:salute:

However, before I inable this genericpatcher, I have a couple of questions. Is all one has to do for all of the patching to work, is enable all the "change" steps to yes(true??whatever), for all this to work; then of course enable via JSGME??? I see an off-shoot page by DW, where a whole bunch more of things to change(which is mind boggling to me) Is this part really necessary for a newbie????:hmph:

Lastly, does one have to start a new campaign??Can one Start saved game from bunker?? Or a saved on open water?? after adding this patcher??:-?

Thanks,

MN:yep:

Trevally. 11-12-12 04:24 AM

Yes - patch all three files as in the tutorial above:up:

No need to start a new career:sunny:

Sobers Mega Mod instructions states one needs to have the DVD version of SH5, but you only mention Steam. I got mine as a DL from Amazon and I was wondering.....?

Update
It appears that Sober is right and that one must have the DVD version. Assuming I have followed the instructions correctly, I get "EXE Version Error" even though I do not have a Steam version. I anyone who knows about this could comment it would be appreciated. I'd be happy to discover that I've made a mistake.
