Becks is now a domestic US beer!

Just found out when I thought I was sold an old case that Becks is now brewed in St. Louis by Bud. :wah:

Having been stationed in Germany for 4 years I must say that if one wants to truly enjoy a German beer you have to be in Germany and drink it fresh nothing comes close to that not even the imported bottles nothing beats a fresh from the brewery German beer.Although Those in the above picture are pretty good I like a good Hopf Helle Weisse if I am drinking an imported German.Of course I am not one of those guys that sits there trying to name the aroma and what not like these guys: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/hopf-he...riginal/12974/ I really like the 2nd guy, "Pours hazy light yellow with a massive head." yep.

On a side not....Newcastle Brown Ale (sold the world over) isn't even brewed in Newcastle any more :nope:

Is Budweiser still the Microsoft of beer? I know they make sure they have better shelf placement than other brands. They would even go after the small craft beer market.

LOL Nevermind

Nice pic GR - known throughout the British Forces as Wobbly. I've partaken one or two bottles* myself and it beats Becks and Bud (what doesn't?).

*Maybe replace bottles for crates, and add a zero onto the end of the figures...

You can have it, it is one of the most terrible beers I know. I am tempted to serve it in test tubes, that chemical it tastes, imo. Veltins or Warsteiner for me, please.

"Domestic" is a relative term, since Bud is now owned by a Belgian conglomerate.

Only for the US market. The main Becks brewery is still in Bremen (the company I work for is transporting malt for them).

AVGWarhawk 02-17-12 12:05 PM

I drink Shiner Beer.

CaptainHaplo 02-17-12 12:18 PM

I don't drink.... but I much preferred a German beer in Germany - a dark or a heavy.....

Penguin 02-17-12 12:32 PM

Yes, we are also outsourcing here - into the 3rd world of brewing :D
In return we brew Duff here: http://www.duff-bier.de/cms/
Even weird stuff like Duff Grape(fruit):

Oh, and it makes sense to brew beer locally, alone regarding transportation. These industry beers taste always the same anyway, local indegredients don't make so much differences to their taste. Like Schroeder said, the main brewery is still in Bremen, but for example "my" Beck's is made in a brewery in the West (Issum).

The only sort of beer that I know which has a distinguable taste and also different alcohol strength in different countries is Guinness, sfsik the strongest Guniness is brewed somewhere in Africa.

That being said Beck's is overrated anyway - I don't like the grass smell when you open a bottle: yuck!

And to destroy one myth regarding u-boats: Beck's was not the standard beer; though SH3 and the "Boot" movie both featured it. I think this comes from the cases of Beck's they found on U-570. In reality they packed the beer brand on the subs which was available at the port.
