The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics will release their next Digital Combat Simulator (DCS) aircraft in 2012: the legendary P-51D Mustang. The Mustang was among the best and most well-known fighters used by the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Possessing excellent range and manoeuvrability, the P-51 operated primarily as a long-range escort fighter and also as a ground attack fighter-bomber with bombs, rockets, and machine guns. The Mustang served in nearly every combat zone during WWII, and later fought in the Korean War.

The DCS: P-51D Mustang will be modelled at the same exacting detail as the existing Ka-50 Black Shark and A-10C Warthog Digital Combat Simulation (DCS) aircraft and it will be online compatible with them. Based on many years of restoring, flying and maintaining Mustangs, The Fighter Collection brings its unique ability to portray this aircraft in its full glory.

The P-51D will be the first aircraft in the Flying Legends series that focuses on historical aircraft that have set benchmarks in combat aviation. This series of simulations demonstrates the broad scope of DCS simulation environment and its ability to introduce aircraft from all eras into a common simulation environment. While the P-51D started as an internal technology demonstration, it has evolved into an independent product that adds an all new dimension to the DCS universe. The development of the P-51D and other Flying Legends series aircraft definitely does not preclude the continued development of modern aircraft.

More details of DCS: P-51D Mustang will be made available closer to product release later this year.

Yes, yes, yes! :yeah::yeah::yeah:

Still holding out for DCS:Harrier :03:

steve_the_slim 01-21-12 12:22 PM

Oh hells yes. Finally a DCS game where I might actually be able to figure out how to fly the darn thing.

CCIP 01-21-12 01:08 PM

A non-modern DCS?

Okay, I admit, that one got me by total surprise :o

Will be watching this.

I take it you don't visit their forum? It's been on the cards for a few months and somebody guessed from (iirc) a screenshot Wags posted that it was to be a Mustang. :O:

CCIP 01-22-12 03:31 PM

Haha, nope, I've really been out of the loop. I've been reluctant to get into DCS since it's a whole new world for me to learn (not to mention a bit of an investment), and I don't have the time/energy/money right now. But someday I'll get on board. I only watch reports elsewhere, like here and in the news on SimHQ, and there hasn't been any mention of this, thus the surprise!

Task Force 01-22-12 03:50 PM

Wish they would do a DCS FW 190.

Nate--IRL-- 02-28-12 07:51 PM

Some new shots of the Mustang, thought I might as well post them in here too.

I've seen entire airplanes with less-detailed textures than that rocket...

hawk2495 02-29-12 01:35 AM

She is looking absolutely gorgeous. Unlike many in the ED forums I am very glad to see them putting out this beauty.

Arclight 02-29-12 02:26 AM

Still a bit divided on it... feels a bit "off" putting it in scenarios with the other relatively modern equipment.

Of course, more appropriate vehicles could be modded in, but now that paid-for content has a go... little hard to be 100% positive.

HunterICX 02-29-12 04:13 AM

That's absolutely beautifull :o

It is a bit out of character but a beauty nonetheless. :yep:

BTW the Su-25T Russian attack aircraft from FC2 is free as part of the DCS download with P-51 - Download it, it's free.

DCS World is a single, unified core for all DCS products to operating within. Rather than separate installations for each DCS products, the single DCS world interface allows the user to access all of their DCS products in a common user interface. DCS world also includes a DCS News service and will allow users to purchase DCS titles through the interface at a later point.

DCS World will be updated as DCS evolves with changes to the rendering system, AI units, AI logics, effects, etc. All aspect of the simulation, outside the flyable aircraft, add-on maps, and other paid-for content.

The current DCE World is still in beta and will evolve over time with new features.

The initial DCE World comes with a free flyable aircraft, the Su-25T (exported from Flaming Cliffs 2).

Quick question about DCS World.

If I have bought A-10C via Steam and just bought Black Shark 2 via Gamefly, can DCS World still 'tie' them together in a single installation? :06:

Nate--IRL-- 06-26-12 04:20 AM

Yes, basically you ditch your current installs and install DCS:-World and the required aircraft modules.

Investigating the possibility of having a counterpart for P-51 in future I need help searching for the wind tunnel data of Bf-109 or FW-190 (or even Zero). I must say that it does not mean that the next flyable plane will be of these types . It means that maybe an AI plane to shoot at will be added if we have good 3D model. But even an AI plane must fly at proper trajectory, mustn't it?

All available NACA resources have no necessary data. The British resources could contain something interesting because I am not sure I know them all. And German resources are still Terra Incognita for me because of my extremely poor German (as well as Japaneeze).

What kind of data will be priceless:
- wind tunnel or flight test measurements of lift carpet, L/D polars, moments, etc
- performance diagrams (though I have a lot, there is always something I would be very happy to get)

Only professional documents of WW II is required, not contemporary estimations.

Please, do not flood this thread - if you have questions and wishes, what plane to make first, you can write a private message
