Start patrols in sub pens? (GWX3.0)
 

I have noticed that I rarely start a patrol in a sub pen. There are a few flotillas/bases that you start in a pen (although I can't remember which, at this point). Currently I'm in 2nd Flotilla at Lorient and here's all these beautiful sub pens...but I'm starting in an open dock, instead.

Any way to change this?

Reinstalling isn't the answer for everything. Those bases are designed that way. You might be able to edit a file to change the starting loc, but you'll have to wait for some one in the know.

You can open the campaign_LND file. The position of the base is where the sub starts. You may start in a wall the first time before finding the right place in a sub pen to place the base. If you really wanted to you could also change the flotilla.cfg file with the new position and direction but it isnt necessary.

Personally, I like the start at sea option of SH3 Commander.

Which shows we're spoilt for choice, in harbour, at sea, or in a sub pen :sunny:

i think this must be a random thing, my base is Lorient and alot of the time i start in an open dock but i have started in a u-boat pen before, although it might have been a base i stopped at that wasn't my home base ..

Some bases are scripted to start in pens, some aren't.

I never allow tankers to wear my pijamas. :D

Part of the problem is that the game has all the u-boat pens finished at the start of the game, and the first ones weren't ready until late 1941, and the one at Kiel wasn't finished until 1944. Starting in the pen at the beginning of any base is totally unhistorical. On the other hand there is nothing in the game that allows for their changing status over the years.

Aces Super Pens mod is fun in that the Kiel pen is just a framework. I don't know if it gets finished later, but it's pretty cool seeing it.

On the other hand SH5 has you start in the pen at Wilhelmshaven, which never had one at all.
