UBI adds Offline option to UbiPlay for SH5
Yesterday the Uplay launcher had an update, which added OFFLINE MODE option in the setting section on the top right corner of the Uplay interface. Now the legal owners of the SH5 can play it without the internet connection needed even in the very beginning of the uplay starts!:salute:Of course you need to disable the savegame sychorization

loading up Uplay now to take a look.
Edit: Yep correct offline is there! I enabled offline then shut Uplay down, reloaded it and it went straight to offline ready to play. |
Wow! Can't quite believe it! That's fantastic news, the DRM has finally bit the dust! :woot::rock:
|
Has someone tried to start the game while offline yet? Like, set it to offline, turn off your PC, unplug your connection, reboot and try to start the game?
CONFIRMED! DRM IS DEAD!!! http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/9109/step1drm.jpg http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/7070/step2drm.jpg http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/3049/step3drm.jpg |

Yeah, while Online I set the Launcher to Offline mode. Then shut off my PC and disconnected my router. I rebooted, started the launcher, got into game and started a mission and while it took a few seconds extra it worked, which is what matters. :)

Prepare for an influx of new captains to SH5 and Subsim :D
Let's see how long it takes Sailor Steve to become one..... |

It hasn't really bothered me, but now at least we have a new response to the constant DRM questions! No, it's not there anymore! |

Two thoughts:
1.) I'll be damned. Ubisoft finally got a clue, and added an option steam has had from its earliest days. 2.) The DRM is NOT dead. It's still there, it just has an offline mode now. Technically speaking Steam is a DRM as well. Just because a DRM has an offline mode, doesn't mean it no longer exists. I don't even have to install it to know it's a damn good bet that you have to authenticate at least once before it allows offline mode. Like steam, it will probably save your credentials, THEN it will allow offline mode. I'll also bet that if you lose your credentials, (IE saved username and PW) ,you'll have to re-authenticate in order to enable offline mode. |

I wonder how many people actually didn't buy this on principle? :hmmm: |
It's quite clear... reduce volume of server maintanance + sell some more products to people disqusted with online DRM
* * * Just hope that it could be new incentive... to moders who previously ignored online DRM product. :yep: |
