Read about that the other day in the locals here.

The orthodox Jews in that neighborhood are thick as thieves. Really devout and hateful of outsiders unless you are spending money. They feel that their laws override the laws of the land. It is of course blatant discrimination..

Something Orthodox Jews and Arabs have in common. They treat their women like dogs.

I just know we used to make black men sit in the back of the bus too, 100 years after they were supposed to be free.

New York and Mayor Bloomberg is very public relations concious, I have confidence in him to fix this. Then again he is also a Jew... To take the side of the heathen against a Jew is a no go...

But lawsuits talk, and law of the land (not the torah) will prevail... We hope...:nope:

The Jews can be what they are, but they should respect the rights men and women have died for if they are to prosper as a part of our society.:)

The point here is sex segregation and not lesser treatment.
I'm very far from being fan of orthodox ways and in my opinion they have taken judaism out of context.
Good thing is that they don't blow up buses or try to convert others-simply live in their own world.

Nobody has to like them but it seems like some people look forward for this nonsense just to feel better about self.

It is a sensible question, its just that you don't like the answer.

If the men were made to go in the back and didn't object it would prove me wrong wouldn't it. It would also demonstrate that you are correct in your rather ludicrous "segregation not lesser treatment" line.
It would be better if they kept it in temple and the home and didn't try and impose it on public transport where such discrimination is clearly illegal.

Questions not answered in the BBC story:

1. Does the bus service get any federal, state, or local funding or subsidies? If it does, then the practice is illegal and unconstitutional;

2. Does the bus line only serve a particular population, i.e., it does not pick up members of the public at large at regular bus stops but only provides service by subscription, for example. If it doesn't, then the practice is illegal and unconstitutional;

Religious or other factors do not apply as an exemption if the line is public and/or sudsidized by tax dollars or open to the general public...

Yes it would be better.
It is the case with most orthodox Jews besides the hardcore ones.
Many orthodox Rabbis don't like the bus segregation and view it as unnecessary but there are always the hardcore zombies.

In Jerusalem you can easily ride a bus with orthodox and lite dressed women mixed together.
At rear occasions one can be asked politely to change seat to be next to a man so that woman can be next to women.
You can respect that or tell them to bugger off which happens sometimes as well.

There are also some kosher zombie lines that try to enforce the segregation mainly between strictly hardcore places...dumb as it may be.

Orthodox can be nuisance but don't have horns.

Illegal as it may be is the more accurate phrase.
Are not some of these "zombie lines" up for contempt of court for refusing to allow segregation to be "voluntary" and for refusing to post the notices that any attempts at forced segregation on their public buses are illegal?

Some Orthodox can be a nuisance. You can't paint them all the same,that would be too orthodox
