Customizing crew clothing

As some of you know I use fubar's new faces and beard mod,and also got raptor's clothing.I use the grey leather coats for the watch crew, and was wondering if you can have different clothing for the seamen below deck?,ideally I want them in more 'dirtier' looking overalls (with braces if possble). Is it also possible to install the grey leather coats (the ones used for the watch) for the officers too?
Also,I noticed that there are usually 6 .tga files for the officers,is the following list the correct order for their positions:

1 - watch officer
2 - who ever is in the aft bunk
3 - engineer
4 - nav officer
5 - weapons officer
6 - who ever is in the forward bunk

Could someone also indicate the relative seamen positions too and their corresponding files?,this would be a great assistance.

Thanks.

Where did you find Fubar's face and beard mod? I've been looking for it, but haven't found it yet. I found Raptor's clothing.

Thanks!

Here is a link to a thread about fubar's face and beard mods, scroll about half way down the page and you should find the downloads.
Let me know if you have any problems finding them.

Is clothing designated for the officers (OFF folder) ok to install into the POS folder too?,if you wanted to I mean.

If someone could indicate the POS numbers for the seamen below deck so I can give them different clothing but still retain the grey leathers by Raptor for the watch that would be great! :salute:

You can, only if the textures are in the same format, for instance the cropping of the textures has the same layout in the .tga files. Meaning the model and cropping or cutting of the .tga is done the same with both the POS and OFF models. I can't check right now but I think they are set up the same. Look at the POS and OFF .tga textures and look if the shirt, pants, and hands are located in the same place in the .tga files.

I think it's just random, with the 01, 02. Because I have a .tga of overalls. I saw my navigation officer wearing them in one patrol and then my helms officer wearing them in another patrol. I think the most specific you can get is the Officer or crew.

Getting the crew clothing just... 'right'

I was wondering,is there a mod somewhere that puts the watch into German greatcoats during dry weather?,with the ability to also retain medals. If not then this could be a great idea for a future mod.

Down below I would prefer the men in overalls and the officers in...not sure yet, either way with the ability to retain some of their medals, esp an Iron Cross or two.

I have noticed with some of the clothing mods that the medals do not show, and some of the other insignia doesnt look 'right' for some reason, sort of garbled (esp on the left arm of the sonar operator) .Is there a reason for this?,and could you describe how to rectify it?

Below is a link to the greatcoat I was thinking about,or something close to it if possible:

Sorry about the size :nope:

Many thanks! :salute:

Down below I prefer the men in overalls and the officers in casual clothing, again with the ability to retain their medals.

So you like the medals on the uniforms I take it. I was always curious if this was realistic or not. I do like the bling. I think a sailor should flaunt what he's earned. But I couldn't find any textures of the medals in good resolutions. Rank_Deco_ND.tga

The Rank_Deco_ND.tga I'm using right now is 2mb, and it has no medals.

At the very least it would be nice to see the Iron Cross around an officer's neck.In the end though I dont want him looking like a christmas tree with about 10 medals all over the place! Also keeping the Iron Eagle badge across the right breast is pretty much important,as it states that the clothing/uniform is Kriegsmarine endorsed etc.
The reason I mentioned all this is because some of the clothing mods (and I like some of the outfits) remove the medals if any have been 'won' ,in fact i'm not even sure if the missing medals is due to a corruption somewhere.

Well look in your Rank_Deco_ND.tga and see if you have medals in there. Also the Ranks.cfg file, or Ranks.bat, deals with medals.

I also like the eagle on the breast, and all my textures retain that.

My current Rank_Deco_ND.tga has the Iron Crosses, but no other medals. If you want my tga just let me know, it's the most realistic and best I've ran into. I can upload it for you.

I appreciate that,I will let you know :yep:

In real life there was little or no enforcement of uniform code on u-boats, most guys would not have been wearing their full naval uniform (or any part of their "good" uniform at all) except for when they were standing in formation on deck or bridge whilst leaving and returning to base.

When the uniform isn't being worn, there really is nothing appropriate on which to hang or pin any bling. You don't put your Ritterkreuz around your neck when you're wearing a flannel shirt that hasn't been washed in a week and the sweater your grammy knitted for you last Christmas. :DL

So all in all, I would say that having medals on the crew while on patrol is not realistic if you are using a mod that puts them in anything other than full uniform for the duration.

How about the Iron Eagle badge over the right breast as implemented in the standard GWX uniforms? some of the uniform mods even remove that.I actually like that badge to be honest.

Thanks

I don't know, I haven't used the stock vanilla or GWX uniforms in so long I can't remember what they looked like.

In the mod I use, the leathers worn by the watch officers and crew have the eagle emblem on them. They are naval issue items and therefore the insignia seems appropriate. However it would not be realistic to have medals pinned to those leather jackets, so I use the "no medals" option.

The rest of the crew is in non-uniform work clothes therefore they wear neither medals nor insignia. On anything that is not government issue clothing, the emblems/insignia would not be realistic IMO.

Thanks for your opinions on this.

I am torn between keeping it realistic ie,going with the no emblems & casual look, and tailoring the crew to my own personal style ie,I wouldnt mind German greatcoats with a German helmet? LOL) for the watch, blue overalls for the seamen below deck, and not entirely sure for the other officers, maybe Das Boot influenced,or greatcoats and German helmet! LOL :yep:

frau kaleun 07-28-11 04:59 PM

By all means the game should look how you want it to look, given the limitations involved. I'm pretty sure there have been requests before for the greatcoats you have pictured or something similar but so far I haven't seen any mods that use them. That may be because nobody who knows how has felt the urge to do it yet, or it may be because it's not possible to create a .tga that will create that look in-game, I just don't know. Given the way the items that are rendered as clothing and accessories are laid out on the existing .tga files, it might involve far more than just changing the .tga files themselves - it might require changes to the 3D modeling of the figures as well. Again I don't really know.

Personally I can't see anyone working on a u-boat wearing a coat that long inside the boat as it seems like it would just get in the way or constantly be catching on stuff in the cramped environment. On watch I'm not sure, but I don't know how practical they would've been when getting down the ladder as quickly as possible (which often meant sliding down rather than climbing) was often a matter of life and death. Of course the s'westers were probably pretty cumbersome in that regard so... :hmmm:

Edit: the helmets IMO would not be realistic at all inside the boat, there's no reason for them. AFAIK the only time they would be worn above decks is when the guns are manned in a combat situation (i.e. engaging a target). Not sure about vanilla or unmodded GWX but I'm pretty sure in my game the guys on the guns do get helmets when they are doing their thing.
