CTD during convoy attack
My game sometimes freezes and then ctd, with an error message saying "silent hunterr 3 has stopped working". This happens when I've hit ships in a convoy with torpedoes and am trying to withdraw.... ctd.
Does anyone have the same problem? I'm running Vista 64. |
When I had GWX enhanced damage mod on and had torpedoed a large tanker it caught fire everywhere, I experienced really bad lag. It didn't crash, but was probablly really close to it. I think that was a memory issue, not enough of it for all the fireworks.

Posting your system specs and what mods you are running is a good first start to figuring out what is going on.:yep:

i just started getting the same issue but with win7/64bit.
although i had a conflict with enhanced damage mod and tried the sh4 version,i uninstalled it but some files were over written so i will copy my saved games and just do a fresh install. its very annoying when your stalking for a couple hours and then loose everything.:nope: win7/64bit qx9650 cpu 4 gig hyper-x |
This usually boils down to low memory issues and or the need for a better graphics card.
|
Or the need to patch your sh3.exe to use more memory.
Even with Win 7 and 8 gigs of memory, an unpatched SH3.exe will only use what it was coded to use. |

IIRC it was you, danlisa and priviteer. :haha: Hows that for memory ? |
Thanks for your repllies guys.
I have a quad core processor, 4gb ram and ati 4870 graphice with 1 gig ram, running vista 64 with the 4gb patch applied. Sublynx, I do have the enhanced damage mod and now that you mention it, I'm sure ctd happens only when tankers have just been hit. |

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...ight=4GB+patch Without it the game will only use a maximum of 2GB RAM no matter how much you have and how much of it is available. Many older programs are hardcoded to use a maximum of 2GB but with more and more folks using 64-bit systems with 4+ gigs of memory on board, the 2GB limit doesn't make as much sense as it did back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. :O: The patch sprinkles fairy dust on the .exe file and makes it possible for the game to use twice as much - a max of 4 gigs of memory, provided you have it on board and it's not being used for something else. :yeah: |
Just had this crop up last night.
Saved my game when I got the initial convoy report. Prosecuted the contacts. Hit a med. cargo and Ceramic liner. Dived ahead flank, launch decoy/turn. Escort goes directly overhead, pinging stops and... CTD. Restarted my laptop, resumed saved game. Same as before. Instead of "Depth Charges In The Water!" I got a CTD. Time to test my RAM. |
Your environment may not apply to this suggestion, but when I had my pc CTDing in the middle of convoy explosions it was mid summer with high inroom temperatures and to top it of bad case ventilation. In short, my graphicscard had hot-flashes when the torpedo struck and particle effects shot up. Reducing particle effects fixed it for me, as well as cleaning out the case and fans and applying a new _thin_ layer of thermal paste.
Just a suggestion. |
My laptop got very hot between gaming sessions, so I'm leaning toward fried RAM.
One of my kids thought they could play on dad's laptop without him finding out. She put it back in the bag, still running. I could have baked bread in the bag when I opened it. :-? She's lost a few privileges for a while. |

She wouldn't by any chance be responsible for the hacking of the CIA computers now, would she? :haha:

That could explain the guys watching the house, and the sniper on the neighbor's roof.
Or, maybe I'm just being paranoid. |
