Statue of Liberty

Statue of Liberty
I’m still a newbe so I'm not sure if anyone has ever done this before but it’s interesting.
I’m using SH3 with SH3 Commander and just for the heck of it I sent my patrol area to CA29.
After completing the assignment I went into NY harbor. Boy what great graphix’s, the Statue of Liberty just
jumps out at you and the skyline is impressive. I sunk a couple of ships and headed back out to sea,
needless to say I had SH set to 0% realism.
:up:

Who says tourism is great for business? :)

Nice of Lady Liberty to give you such a warm greeting... :sunny:

Gerald 03-28-11 11:13 AM

They are very friendly on the "other" side and you will get nice catches :O:

sukitha 03-28-11 11:24 AM

thinking of going to new york if I get the chance :)
just wondering if I can go into the harbour a day or two before Germany declares war on US and wait for all the green ships to turn red :hmmm:

Gerald 03-28-11 11:37 AM

Not impossible at all but I want to remind that the inlet is very shallow and that there is a DD and mtb before you reach the inner part, I suggest you wait at the border at night when they are your real enemy

The Statue Of Liberty is in the stock game. GWX adds a huge amount of ships. SH3C adds nothing to the campaign files.

There are some nice targets docked in the various harbors behind the Statue. You should see what happens when you torpedo some of them, all heck breaks loose.:yep:

:salute:

The Statue of Liberty drops her torch, reaches into her voluminous robes and pulls out a giant Tommy gun that fires 16" rounds, chewing up the harbor and blasting any u-boat to smithereens!

:)

When you think about it, she's pretty much the perfect sentry...

First she acts all statue like, (and lulls you into a false sense of security), and then just when you least expect it - whammo, never saw it comin'! :O:

fun time in NYC

ever tried to shoot the statue and aim for Empire State Building and the suspension bridges just for fun?

@VONHARRIS

That screenshot of yours is almost sacriligious :) Did you really have to torpedo that passenger ship in front of the Statue of Liberty? What would you feel like if somebody torpedoed a ship in the port of Athens and took a tourist snapshot of it so that the Acropolis would be in the background :arrgh!:

1. The ship was armed , so she was a valid target:D

2. The port of Peiraius - Athens - has been attacked several times during WWII both by the Luftwaffe and the Allied airforces. There are shots of ships exploding in port after air attacks. I will post them when I find them.
In a single occasion an ammunition ship was hit and exploded in port of Peiraius and debris has landed some 30 kms inland reaching the city of Athens with heavy loss of life.
To my knowledge , NY harbor has never been attacked.

3. I appologise if I have offended you with this screenshot. I was just playing the game.

TwoGamers 09-08-12 03:52 AM

Screenshot is just ironic. Why would you do that to those poor people? At least wait until there out in the altalantic where they will freeze in the water:har:

No offense taken, I'm just ambivalently amused and shocked at the same time by the sight :) It is a game after all.

It would very interesting to see the pictures of the Peiraius attacks! Hope you find them!

Insert gratuitous necro pic and low low necro score. Of course 6-7 posts does give a nice bonus.

@vonharris...nice shot! :D
