I wish I could have been there. Nice to see she is getting the repairs she needs! :yeah:

Seeing a WWII sub underway like that, even for a short time, is really a touching sight. It's like a little piece of history coming alive! Great ships both of them, of course.

So where were you? That looks really fun to be on the sub while its sailing.:ahoy:

But was she proceeding under her own steam?

That last photo shows her missing at least one of her screws :DL

From the earlier pics, looks like the tug was moving her.

Thanks for sharing these pics.

No, keep the tower, we have examples of pure WWII fleet boat configs, we need to preserve the GUPPY configs like Torsk and Cavalla, too. :shucks:

Tug boat pulled. The prop is in Philadelpia at a submarine memorial.

Agreed. The boat is being kept in this trim. Cold war GUPPY. Need to get the damn sharks mouth off!!! :stare:

The old girl will get some new sheet metal on the belly. She is a bit soft in that area.

The city of Baltimore thought it would look cool and attract visitors. In part it does. Mouth has been there ever since I can remember. The voluteers who are doing the restoration would like it to be removed. No dice.

Figured it was something like that. :nope:

You know what might attract even more visitors? They could give it a completely different paint job:

Shame that they feel real history has to take a back seat to tourist dollars.

I've always like the look of a submarine in drydock. So much of it is below the water that when you see it out of the water it is amazing. I couldn't believe how massive my boat was when I saw it in drydock the first time.

Sadly this is the colors the city painted INSIDE the Torsk. Really...no kidding. The forward engines were electric blue. :88) Plus various other colors all over the place. It was not far off from marmalade skys!

As much as I truly loathe the shark's teeth on the boat - and I do, truly, loathe them - if it's gonna bring in a few bucks that wouldn't otherwise be there to help keep her from becoming a reef, I reckon I can live with 'em.
