French gay marriage ban upheld by constitutional court
The French constitutional court has upheld a ban on gay marriage, which was challenged by a lesbian couple with four children. The court ruled that the ban, challenged by Corinne Cestino and Sophie Hasslauer, was in keeping with the constitution.
Activists had hoped France would join states like Spain and Belgium in legalising same-sex marriage. The idea that the court should rule at all on gay marriage was condemned by the leader of France's far-right National Front, Marine Le Pen. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12305858 Note: 28 January 2011 Last updated at 09:59 GMT |
Sometimes the French drive me crazy with their pride and stubborness. And sometimes they impress me with their pride and healthy reason. If I would have married a French girl, I assume my life never would have been a subject of boredom. :DL

Amazing... the one place in the world where the women are as hairy as the men, their natural instinct is to surrender, and they grow a backbone on this one.
Well done French type people... |
Good job, bigots!

Seems to be the way the law is at the mo in France. I guess they'll move to change it at some point.

No problem, as soon as the muslims take over that country they'll ban it--off with their heads.

Good for France. It's their country, let them handle their own affairs.

Let decadence, abnormality and deviance rule your country if you like though. :D |

Can't have it both ways. Either we are wrong when we take a stand, or we are wrong to accept moral decay. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing, While mostly attributed (incorrectly) to Burke, the truth of the statement itself remains. Some choose not to stand by, and in the case of France, good for them for taking a stand on something. |
Wow, France really dodged a bullet there. We all know how disastrous it would be to let two adults who love each other enter into a legal relationship. Thank goodness this discrimination against a group of people for no good reason will continue. It's tradition, after all, and tradition is never wrong.
