Songs for the gramophone
Despite of GWX great gramophone tracks I started to expand my "gramophone tracklist" so I downloaded lots of songs from the downloads section.
I found a file in the SH3 Oggvorbis folders (I donīt remember which one) called "German military march - Collection of soldatenlieder" that has multiple songs in one single file. Someone knows the name of that songs? .Specially the first one and the third |
Can't say I do but there are 11 gramaphone packs available from my FF account.

Not entirely realistic... but..
On my old rig, I had lots of old American and BBC broadcasts from the war years. FDR and WSC speeches, excerpts from US radio stations, and lots of blues and jazz and swing. Amos and Andy, the Goldbergs (shiver!), Great Gildersleeve. I justified it by saying I needed to start understanding American culture so that I could be assigned to occupation duty after the war. |
Let me say that those music packs have a big part of WW2 music with different kinds of music (not just military songs).
For those who didn`t found it yet, the file is in the SH3 Oggvorbis5 folder that can be downloaded here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...do=file&id=921 |

I added some Wagner (of course!) and play it when stalking something. "Ride of the Valkyries," anyone?

Realism be damned...
I put on some Jimmy Buffett on my cruises to the Carribean. Mostly though, the music on gramaphone are period pieces. There are a ton of gramaphone tracks out there, including jimbuna's, which are very good. In fact, I think I have too many tracks. I need to organize them a little bit into mini-mods and enable them thru JSGME. I'm sure there are songs that are in my gramaphone file that I haven't heard in a long time. :) |

Another anachronistic piece that would fit very well: Bobby Darin's version of "Beyond the Sea" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZoCr...eature=related
Currently in my song folder. |

Can you add your own files? I have never looked into it, but sounds awesome!

IIRC the game will accept files in .mp3 and .ogg formats - the general consensus seems to be that .ogg files are more stable and work better when played in-game. It's also recommended that you choose one format and stick to it, but your mileage may vary (mine did). |
Ive added a number of mp3 files to my gramaphone, along with the GWX stuff ive also added some complete film soundtracks such as Gladiator,Star Wars, Lord of the Rings Return of the King and Master and Commander to name but a few.
All are played at random thanks to SH3 commander and it suprising how often the music lends itself to the situation i find myself in, The battle scene music from Gladiator gets the blood flowing when your locked onto a target and a destroyer is bearing down on you. My Fav track for leaving harbour is the opening music from the film Battle of Britain. Can any one help as to how I can get the band on the quay to play this? Mind you it may mean a slight delay in departing the dock as I stand on the bridge waiting for the track to finish :) |
You need to replace "Fanfara_01.wav" in the SilentHunterIII\Data\Sound. Take your song into Audacity (assuming you are starting with an MP3), mix it to mono (may take some amplitude adjustments to reduce clipping) and export as .WAV. To keep file size down, convert it to 22k hz.
...that seems confusing for people who don't know how to use Audacity. I'll try to get that file up for you. |
