Craigslist is great

My wife is a borderline pack rat. In our previous home, we had an entire guest bedroom which was packed wall to wall floor to ceiling with her crap. and the only way you could get in was the small 18 inch wide path leading from the entryway door to the closet door. it was ridiculous. I have been trying for years to get her out of the mentality that sentimental value does not have to be placed on every single belonging a person ever had. I have slowly pulled her out of this mentality by asking 1) "When was the last time you even set eyes on this _______ let alone USED it!?" and 2) "Wouldn't you rather have $30 for it?" this week i have turned a hand full of misc crap i havn't even touched in a year into about $300 cash. Basically, the old saying is true... one man's trash is another man's treasure. Since i started using craigslist over a year ago to actively sell items i have made about $1,200 have any of you had much success on craigslist?

cant talk about succes, but gotta check this out, there's enough crap in my house to start a colony. From porcelain horses to 100 year old work benches

Everytime I go there to sell something I, buy someone elses crap.

It's a great site.

Just made another $100 selling old crap :haha:

For the stuff you can't or don't care to sell, see if there is a Freecycle.org in your area. You will be surprised at what people will pick up. We use it all the time and it is great.

The only way to prevent that from continuing is to put your wife on craigslist... ;)

I've never bought anything off Craigslist, but I've looked a lot. I've also never tried to sell anything there, until now. One of my brand-new bass guitars is for sale there so I can upgrade to an even better one.

... sorry Steve but you are too late... they shut down the adult services section of Craigslist...

:O:

I hear some really wild stories of 'services' being offered on Craigslist.

Silly stuff like murder for hire, drugs being sold, prostitution, and on and on.

Makes ebay look like a pre-school playground.

Some people have done just that with Craigslist.

Anyone hear about the craigslist killer? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Markoff

There is no doubt you have to be safe when dealing with strangers.

always meet in daylight in a public place. like the parking lot of a crowded grocery store or restaurant etc.

as long as you aren't dealing shady stuff. you can avoid shady deals.

I usually dont deliver goods to people's homes or ask them to come to my place to pick them up as there is always that possibility of them knocking you over the head and taking everything you have. or "casing the joint" for future burglary. thankfully my German Shepherd raises hell whenever people are outside.

the couple of times i have met people at either my home or theirs it has been disabled senior citizens or pregnant single moms looking for cheap stuff.

i wouldnt suggest anyone try and make a career off of craigslist - but if you have an old book shelf or an old TV taking up space in your garage... someone out there might be looking to buy those items exactly.

just yesterday afternoon i saved myself a trip to the dump to trash a bunch of cardboard boxes. Some guy in the want ads on CR was moving and needed boxes and was willing to pay $1 each. i told him just to come and get them and save me the trip to the dump and they wouldn't cost him a dime. The bed of my truck was FULL of boxes - not any more though.

i tend to think of it as an online yard sale. its funny how people will meet you somewhere to buy a used 3 year old printer for $40 rather than drive to the store and get a brand new one for $65
